Snow Cables - Ford Edge Sport

Recommended Posts

I have a 2011 Edge Sport and I am going to be driving up to the mountains for a snowboarding trip, where chains may be required.

I can't find good solid information on what to use for this vehicle.

I see things that say "Never use chains, only cables" and then I see things that says Ford doesn't recommend chains OR cables. So what am I supposed to do in this case? I do not have a AWD vehicle.

I know whatever I get will be expensive because of these big tires, but that's half the reason I love this model

If anyone has any advice, please let me know.

I drive my Sport to the Finger Lakes region of NY quite a bit bit and even this past weekend I drove up a snow covered driveway so steep I thought for sure I'd be spinning tires, but slow and steady our edge pulled up the drive with no noticeable loss of traction. So satisfied with this awd system

I'm new to this sight so here is my first input thoughts. I just purchased a 2013 Sport AWD and have not had the opportunity to drive it in snow here in Washington State where we get anywhere from a couple of inches to two feet of snow where I live. I don't believe I will need any traction aid with it. My 2011 Escape with AWD did great, but also had different tires. I would only want to purchase traction aid to carry in the vehicle to be legal if I was going across a pass when they required it. I have been looking at a product called, AUTOSOCK, you can learn more about them at, www.autosock.com or www.autosockus.com. They are legal in all states and look like they would work for the Sport 265/40-22 tires and the clearance that you have. I contacted the company and they said I would need there number 699 set for those tires. I have seen them for about a $100.

I have the 2013 Edge Sport w 22" rims. I am looking to switch out the rims/tires for smaller ones with all terrain tires (just for the winter) and am being told this is not possible. True?

I was told the same thing by my dealer. They said switching out the tires and rims would void the warranty and could screw up the AWD system. Ive seen a bunch of people do it on here and other sites. Ive called a few other dealers and tire places and have gotten mixed answers.

Personally used cables on the 20s but not the 22s. These should still fit the fronts with no problem, and I know what the manual says.

22s cables Z-579 which have no contact with wheel or the Super Z-6 work great too for low clearance applications SZ441

for the 20s you can us Z-575 or the SZ435 and like I said I do have personal experience with these.
