Time to replace the front 2 OEM tires on a 2010 Edge SEL, what to buy?

New member here. This car is my wife's and I am a member of similar sites for every vehicle I have ever owned, and know how useful they can be.

To my question: My wife has a 2010 Ford Edge SEL, and it's time to replace the 2 front tires, and soon it will be all 4.

What tires do you recommend? Not too concerned on price, but don't need top of the line if they are much more expensive.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum! Do you have FWD or AWD? That will affect timing of tire replacement, as AWD should have identical tires on all 4 wheels for best performance. Wheel size?

Tirerack's ratings are pretty spot-on. Unless you want winter tires, the best liked all-season tires include the Continental CrossContact LX20, Yokohama Parada Spec-X, and (I believe OEM) Pirelli Scorpion Verde.

If your wheels are 18" or less, you could go with a winter tire, though those usually have no treadlife warranty.

The tire should have the diameter on it - it should say 245/60R18. 18 is the diameter.

Tirerack is a good source for comparisons. If you're happy with the OEM michelins I'd stick with them.

Just had to replace two tires on our used 2010 Limited Edge. The originals are the Scorpion STRa P245 50 r20. Pirelli says the STR are the newer version of the STRa. Couldn't afford 4 new tires and after returning home from an 11 day trip to Wyoming and Montana, we found a screw in the sidewall of one of the tires. This car is parked in our garage so it must have happened before our trip. Anyway, we have over 41,000 miles on the tires and can't recall how much tread is left on the two older ones but I don't think we'll get 65,000 miles out of them. Too bad we couldn't afford 4 tires. Won't be able to rotate them now from back to front since it is highly recommended that the 2 new tires are on the rear to prevent fishtailing even in a FWD. Ah well! Another point of interest is the "old" tires have dry rot. That shouldn't be but I should have noticed that when my husband and I purchased it but we failed to look at the tires. We had our mechanic check everything but didn't look over tires. Lesson learned.

I'll give some datapoints.

I'm in a very similar situation. I'm looking to replace the 4 OEM tires (Michelin Latitude Tour HP, 245/26R18). Considering getting the Michelins again, or perhaps the Continental LX20 (great reviews on TireRack) or the Bridgestone Dueler 422 Ecopia (similar reviews on TireRack).

Leaning towards the Continentals.

Reviews found here:

Costco has a good deal on Bridgestones now, $70 if you buy four, so I'm tempted by that also.

If I go with the Continentals, I'll be going to Town Fair Tire (chain here in NE)

I replaced all 4 tires on my 07 Edge SEL FWD 245/60R18 this spring with Continental LX20 Eco Plus and I am very satisfied with the ride and quietness. I have about 5k mi. on them and had them rotated. I find you need to be diligent on roating tires on this vehicle as I have 95k and have replaced the tires (in pairs) more than I'd like since I bought the car at 10k miles. Overall these Contis are wearing well and nice and quiet. About 200 cheaper (for 4) than the similarly rated Michilens too.
