Driver side weather stripping

The door jamb weather stripping on the front drivers side on my new 2013 Ford Edge keeps popping out of the door at the top of the door. The dealer has ordered new weather stripping but it looks like the metal bend on the door is a little short in the area where it is popping out. The service guy says he might can use some double sided adhesive to hold it in. Any one else have this problem?

Hey misterfixit,

I'd like to loop in your regional customer service manager, who'll work with you and your dealer to come to a resolution. Please send me a private message (PM) with your full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, mileage, and preferred servicing dealership.

Thanks four your reply. Should I wait to see if the dealer takes care of it? I like the dealership and their service department and I don't want them upset with me.

You're welcome, misterfixit. The CSM assigned to your region will contact you and the dealership, but not to worry; this isn't seen as a bad thing. CSMs can open up a few more options to dealerships to more quickly resolve customer concerns. I've never seen a case where a dealership has been upset by this. We're all on the same team. :)

I haven't carried it in for service yet but was told by Ford service that their tech expert stated that maybe there was not enough adhesive in that area. I have checked all the doors and adhesive is not used to hold the weather stripping in. There is a spline on the weather stripping that fits in a metal fold on the top of the door. The metal fold in the area where the weather stripping is loose is shorter than the rest of the doors. Seems to be a defect in the door.

The weather stripping was replaced today. It did not fix the problem. The weather stripping is tight on all the other doors. No adhesive is used on the weather stripping at the top of the doors. It fits into a groove where the metal is folded at the top of the door. All you have to do is touch it and it comes out of the groove. I am not happy after sitting in the dealership for about an hour today.

Have you considered bringing your Edge to a different dealer for a second opinion?

I called Ford Support on the Tuesday the 18th and was told that they would get back with me. I haven't heard anything yet.

Were you given a case number when you called, misterfixit? If so, shoot it to me in a PM and I'll look into this.

They have the car right now, they took me home as I was waiting 5hrs....

Check your PMs, Michael Sherrod.

I talked to the service manager at the dealership this afternoon. He will look at it next week on Wednesday. I asked him about a field service tech coming to look at it. He wants to look at it first and stated that they could put some adhesive on it although it was not designed to have adhesive in that area. Jessica, the CSM, still has not called or emailed me. I have given up on a response from Ford customer service.

Hello misterfixit,

I understand your frustrations; I've requested that your CSMs supervisor reach out to you. I will check into this as soon as I get into the office on Monday.

Do not hesitate to let me know if you have questions.

The dealership replaced the weather stripping yesterday. The Service Manager had the technician to use some sort of contact cement in the area where it was loose. I have left it alone to cure for several days and then will see if it holds. His answer for the shorter metal fold on the door was that Ford allows a tolerance of + or - 1/8 inch on the body panel seams. He also stated that he didn't think it was a problem. Ford Customer Service has contacted me about my frustrations about this issue. I am disappointed that Ford did not send out a field technician to look at the door. I wonder how many more Edges are out there with the same problem. I paid alot for this vehicle.

I have asked her to forward my requests to her supervisor. She agreed but I have not received a reply as to whether she has or not. I have not heard from her supervisor either.

Hey there misterfixit,

I spoke with Jessica, who has informed her supervisor (as well as forwarded all of your email correspondence). As of right now, your case is being reviewed and you'll be contacted today.

I was contacted the next day and a voicemail was left on my phone. I had waited for a call but I can't stay by my phone all the time. I called back and left a message by voicemail. I was called back about 5 hours later and was left a voicemail. I called back and left a voicemail requesting to be contacted via email. Still no response. I suppose I will start posting about this on Facebook.

I understand that playing phone tag is frustrating. What time of day (perhaps a window of time) is best for you? I'll pass it along.
