Toubleshoot no power on invision headrest dvd on edge sport '11

Recommended Posts

Hey guys was just wondering if somebody could help me out with this. I have a ford edge sport '11 with dual invision headrest dvds that have been working fine since i bought the truck. Yesterday i noticed that the dvd on the drivers side doesnt get any power while the other one works just fine. Did a quick check and everything seems connected does anybody know how to troubleshoot this? Might as well try and save a few bucks.

Thanks

gomich,

Remove the seatback and check the barrel connector between the head rest and the black box. It will pull apart if the head rest is pulled up too far.

Remove the two scrivets left and right in the lower corners of the seat back. Then while pushing the edges of the seat back into the back of the bolsters, slide the seat back up and unhook it from the seat. You will see the cable then. Replacement is reverse of removal.

Good luck.

gomich,

Trace the cables back to the black box from under your seat. The invision units are not factory, so an installer may have placed the box under the driver's seat or under the passenger seat, and maybe under the center console.

The cables have a barrel connector somewhere along their length, I now recall that one cable is for the video signal and the other is for power.

My wife's X3 has a similar system installed. The kids were messing with the head rest and pulled the cable apart. Her barrel connectors were behind the seat cover. When I purchased my system on ebay, I installed the barrel connectors behind the seatback too, there was a ton of slack cable, which I coiled inside the seat back cavity.

When you find the blackbox, it will have a single power lead that serves both players. Four cables come out of the box, color coded (my memory isn't what it used to be), a pair of cables for each side.

If the cable connectors are intact, the black box may be at fault, and if that's the case, a dealer visit will be necessary. Invision corporate will not help end-users.

There may be fuses in the black box for each player. The blackbox has an external inline fuse on the incoming power lead.

Happy hunting! (?)

For those interested on the edge sport '11 the black box is under the center conse and you can access itby removing side panel on passenger side

Awesome, thanks for sharing. I may put my box in the same spot, I am concerned about the heat vent under the seats being bad for the power box.

Does the panel just pull off? The power point and air vent are on the passenger side. I wonder if the driver side would be easier.

I know this thread is old. I had the same issue. We were on a car trip using the DVD players and they just stopped working. I knew it must be a fuse but couldn’t locate which in the fuse diagram. I called the dealership that perhaps they could tell me which fuse but they only wanted me to bring it in and pay $150 to figure out the problem. Finally I have located the black box and the fuse for the DVD player to under my steering wheel. The wires and black box were zip tied up in there so I cut those and was able to access it. 5 amp fuse in a wired in fuse holder.
