Do I get nav for free?

Recommended Posts

If the car is in fact equipped with factory nav but missing the SD card, did the dealer list nav as an option that it has? If so, they would have to provide the card because without it the nav is useless.

Have you even brought this up with the dealer? You may be putting the cart before the horse if you haven't approached the dealer yet.

If the previous owner had removed one of the wheels and kept it, would you expect the dealer to replace it? Of course you would, you can't drive around on three wheels! Sounds like the vehicle originally came with Nav, therefore the SD card is part of the original vehicle. If it's not there, then it should either be replaced before the sale or the price of the vehicle should be suitably discounted.

not to detract from the original post bust how often does the navigation get updates? I purchased a 13 in November and just bought an Edge an both have maps that are severly outdated. Does the dealer provide the updates or are they downloadable?

Hi 05stram,

Map updates are usually released yearly from our map provider, HERE. The A5 SD card is not available on their website yet, but you can purchase one via your dealership. I do suggest contacting a few dealers to ensure you get the best price. Also, if you are noticing missing POIs, roads, etc., please be sure to let HERE know by reporting them at this link:

That doesn't necessarily mean the lastest map data has those. Sometimes even the most current maps are still somewhat outdated in certain areas. But you can get an updated A5 card for around $125 from dealers.

You're welcome!

If you do come across incorrect information on the map, please be sure to update our provider so they can make the needed changes in their system. Here's the link:

Sorry that I am asking the same question but it's better than creating another thread...

I have a Ford certified pre-owned 2011 Edge SEL but it only missing NAV (it's just "info"). Can I get NAV put in? I've been told no but I can't imagine why not....

No you can't add NAV to non-NAV equipped vehicles. It's something only Ford knows the reason for. But you still get voice turn by turn navigation through Sync subscription.

The reason is they haven't developed a way to allow dealers to sell it and add it to a vehicle without leaving it wide open for dealers and others to rip it off for free. If it was just an option in the dealer laptop to turn it on then you can see how that might be abused by unscrupulous dealers or techs.

Also - at a cost of $700 I'm not sure a lot of folks would pay that aftermarket compared to using their phone or tom tom etc. So the business opportunity isn't big enough to make it worth developing a solution.
