Beverly Posted August 25, 2014 Report Share Posted August 25, 2014 2007 Edge has "rotted" fuel tank all around the seams and on top when fuel enters ("rotted" in quotes per Ford dealer mechanics). Huge chunks of rusted metal falling off! Ford says no recall, NHTSA says they can only document it. Many other customers have complained with exactly the same symptoms, model, etc. Who needs to die or have their house blow up from leaking fumes before something is done?! Cost is always around $2000 for new tank and another $100-200 for car rental while Edge gets repaired. Then what? Another 7 years and another new fuel tank?! A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source may result in a fire. Ford is aware of one fire that may be related to this condition, with no injuries and no accidents.Affected vehicles include certain 2007-2008 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles built at Oakville Assembly, from June 15, 2006 to Sept. 22, 2008. Call center guy could not tell me where the vehicle was manufactured. I would figure Ford could at least tell me this based on the VIN number but apparently this can not be done. The service tech at the desk said Ford was to put out detailed information by 8 December 2014 so I would have to wait. Expected parts availablity is worded as "late third quarter of 2015" For those of you with leaks you can take it in and they will apply JB Weld on it and patch ya up, just don't smoke or drive ahead of anyone throwing their cigs out the window. So you have seen this tank and the seller wasn't correct with his description of it being in good shape? He was being dishonest when he said this one doesn't leak? How have other owner's managed to buy used tanks from salvage yards and have no problems? Perhaps the tank came from a Southern state or a rust free car. Considering the shortage of tanks and the cost of them, I thought someone who might need one and was in the area might get a good deal. I was wondering If ford was going to replace all tanks leaking or not. sanlynnj Posted January 24, 2015 Report Share Posted January 24, 2015 got the recall letter, my edge did have the leak. it has been a nightmare. the dealer where we took it, told us it would take a few hours, never mentioned they didn't have the part. we get a call and they said it could be 8 months or more for the part and the car still sits at the garage , with nothing being done. The dealer set us up with a rental, I about died when the replacement car was a Toyota Corolla. I have a case number etc. a supervisor was to call me on jan 22 with an update..of course that never happened. I messaged ford on facebook, got a response back and it said,,my case had been closed.!!! I about it the roof. I said,,my car has not been touched! Talking to anyone on the phone is like talking to the wall. I sat down and wrote a letter to the board of directors. I am sure it wont get me any help, but it did make me feel like I was doing something, when I don't know what else to do at this point. sanlynnj Posted January 25, 2015 Report Share Posted January 25, 2015 I am sure they want me out of the rental they are paying for, but that doesn't help me that on the 46th day , my insurance doesn't cover a substitute car any longer. I have gone round and round with ford. I shouldn't have to take out extra insurance on a replacement vehicle. They just repeat themselves like robots. We will cover the rental but not insurance. Not to mention I am still paying insurance for my Edge that is sitting at the Ford Garage, and making car payments on it. Usually an insurance company will have better advice/more pull with "the other party", and may cover your rental under your existing policy due to the extenuating circumstances.
