400km per tank city. What's yours getting?

For the last three weeks, I have been getting MPG of 6-7 more than ever in the past. Just drove 350 miles at a steady 65 MPH except for a few pedal to the metal passing moments. My 3.5 2013 Edge was getting an average of 32.4 MPG for the entire trip! Hand calculated was within a .5 MPG. I went 560 miles before filling up, and even then I still had fuel range showing, not low fuel! Best in the past was 26 MPG.

Around town I have seen an increase of the same 6 MPG or more.

Whats different? Just moved from the Dallas area to the Cleveland area. Must be a better grade of gas, or no ethanol content in it. The pumps do state up to 10% ethanol. I have used Shell, BP, and Sams Club gas and have gotten the same general increase in MPG compared to just a month ago before the move, or even for the period of the last two years living in Dallas.

Guess I'm moving to Cleveland lol.

I think i'm getting the MPG shaft. $80 in my Edge barely gets me 400k. $130 in my work 4 door quad cab base model F-150 gets 800. Hmm. Something wrong with this math.

And don't even start about the HP thing because the F150 would get to the end of the 1/4 mile, turn around and come back and push my Edge across the line. Seems just wrong to enjoy driving the Titanic Truck over the speedboat. With the exception of the 493 ft turning radius, I would rather drive the Titanic. At least when you press the gas pedal, it responds.

3.5L V6 (so not ecoboost)

I will post a picture tonight but rhis morning, the yellow low gaz indicator showed me the message and i am at 540km. It is weird because the gauge seems to be not quite to the E line... It is just a first warning or i have to go to the gas station soon? (First time with my edge and with electronical gauge)

Is there a way to reset the DTE calculation without disconnecting battery?

Try switching to tow mode DTE calculation & then back and see if changes it.

Also, the low fuel warning will come at 20 km to empty & at zero. When at zero, the gauge turns to red color. You'd still have a few kilometers to go, I think the max I went was 4-5 KM after zero, but never ran empty.

I have a 2013 SEL. For the first time since I bought it, I hit got over 400 km city driving on a tank. 413 to be exact. I have averaged between 340 and 390 depending on season, idle time, remote start etc.

Just wondering what other 3.5's are getting?

Anyone else ever show over 600 DTE on their edge? I've never seen over 500 so what the heck is going on? Anyone from Ford care to chime in?

I suggest having your local dealership take a look if you're at all concerned about the DTE display, normcloutier. They're best able to diagnose this, if necessary.
If any of you are thinking there's something up with the readings you're getting, your local dealership is your first and best resource! I encourage you all to keep me in the loop, and don't hesitate to reach out to me privately with some more information moving forward. :)
Have a great day!

For me around the town i try really hard but can't seem to keep my car much below 11.3L/100km for around town. It's all the red lights that kill me as I am sure they put a special camera at every street corner to switch the light to red for me as I approach. Recently I've been up around the 13.4+L/100km and it's getting depressing as the number goes up pretty quick, but when I get myself even crusing at 60km and the instant gauge is low, the number doesn't want to come down.

Get it onto the highway and I can get myself around the 7.8~8.2L/100km. it's an average thing as if you have more uphill the gas is far worse than if your going somewhere more downhill. I have not had the car long enough to really get a sense of what the fuel economy is like. But on my old 2007 escape, if you were very quiet, you could hear the engine sucking the fuel tank dry.

With this post thread, I took it upon myself to see what the Edge was like so that I could better drive. In modifying my driving habits, I have brought my driving down to the 10.x L/100km by simply letting up on the accelerator sooner and driving with a lighter touch. I've read a post on here where someone explained the shifting points on the car, and if you learn to better read those, you can get better fuel economy.

It seems that Ford has a variable set of shifting points depending on the speed and vigor of your foot on the gas pedal. If you are light on the touch, then the Edge will be more agreeable to shift to the next gear sooner than if you let the engine rev up to get up to speed sooner. But this seems to be also tempered with what the car was doing. From my experimentation, I found that if you stamp on the gas peddle from a full stop, it will stay buried in the 70+L/100km range for far longer and likely stay in the lower gear and not shift up so your engine is using far more gas to cover the same distance at a given speed. However, if you took the extreme opposite side and was too light on the foot, the car will never reach a high enough critical speed to warrant changing gears and your transmission being stuck in 1st gear does not allow the engine to do it work very efficiently.

However, if you take a middle ground approach for that first 30-40km/h then back off your foot on the gas peddle to allow the RMP's to to hold constant for a second or two, then the Edge will then decide to switch gears and the fuel economy gets vastly better. Then if re-apply your foot to the accelerator lightly, the edge will continue to accelerate but do so in a much more fuel efficient manner than before. If you simply lighten up on the accelerator after getting yourself to that first 30-40km/h and don't let the RMP's hold constant, I found that the fuel economy still stays up in the 20-25L/100km rather than dropping down into the 13-17L/100km and it your fuel consumption suffers greatly because of it.

The down side to this method however is that you do slow down a slight bit, and it can take 4-5 seconds longer to get the Edge up to the maximum speed posted for the city road. This in turn will tick off all the lead foot drivers behind you who for whatever reason are very eager to get to that next red light and stop well before you.

Just some observations I made while driving for the past few days with my Edge.
