I am brand new here please excuse me for all wrongs if I do, Thank you.

I have ford edge sell 2011. mechanic at dealership told me that my battery is measuring 373 cold cranking amps and needs replacement for new battery because it should be 590 cold crank amps. If I replace battery myself is there any other thing required to reset and or do after I install new battery?

Can I just go and buy new battery put it in and nothing else would be required. I worry that some programs and/ or controls might be lost after I disconnect battery (power)?

Thank you all

Don't do it yourself - the local auto parts store will most likely install it for you for free and they can hook it up to a temp battery source while they do it so you don't lose any programming. If you do it yourself it should be fine but the biggest issue is it sets a flag and will not pass an emissions test (obd-II) until you have driven for awhile. Don't know if that's a problem in Canada or not.

akirby thank you very much. autoparts place want to charge me $56 for installation plus $152 for BXT-59 battery, that is over $200 , lot of for me unless if there is no other way then what has to be done it has to be. do you say that signal (flag) will disappear after I drive it for example: 100 KM.

Thank you

I used to have to disconnect the battery over night once a week to get the POS Myfordtouch to reset. Nothing much happens. I have had to do it so many times I dont even bother settings stuff back up anymore. I think some of the settings on the left screen, like door lock key chain pushes and the expanded trip meter reset. You might as well go ahead and do it. You are gonna have to disconnect the battery sometime. This way you will know what stays and what resets each time you disconnect the battery, that way you can decide if it is worth it. I think the radio stations and the saved NAV destinations stay.

Well I am new to this forum but really find it helpful. Must issue this news however. I love my 2011 Ford Edge but apparently my battery was on its last legs. Bought my Edge used with low mileage in 2014 but did not know how old the battery was of course. It would not turn over the engine this morning (11/23/2016) and there was a lot of clicking sounds from under the cowling, and it was a bit slow in turning over the engine on just two occasions (without clicking sounds), just once a few months ago and once a few days ago. Of course I don't know how old the battery is though I am sure that is the problem. Well, just got home from work tonight and tried to start it again and got a lot of clicking sounds (definitely not the same sounds - these came from the power distribution box under the cowling and did not sound the same) which with my parking lights not going off would not stop for about 30 minutes, until the dashboard lights and parking lights died, well after I turned off the ignition. So right now, I am wondering if I not only need to get a new battery and get through the "reset issues" but if I will also need to pay to have my power distribution box ( and every fuse located in it -- lots of money!) replaced because they all burned out. Just because I tried to start my Edge one more time. Anyone know of any recalls for this??? Batteries die all the time and as much as I love Ford, this is a definite engineering problem!

@LynchJM

I'd suggest first changing the battery before worrying about the other stuff. Modern cars have a lot of electronics & a weak or dead battery will many things to act up. After changing the battery most probably everything will return back to normal. Also, the "reset issues" are not a concern, at least on the Edge. So don't start worrying now.
