I picked up these bad boys and they finally arrived in the mail today. Below are the details of my order.

I had their regular 35W kit before. I was very happy with it but wished for a bit more light. So I bought these guys. We live in the Korean country. I have to drive through rice patty fields to get to my house. So I'm hoping this will help me not drive into the ditches.

The ballasts came with mounting brackets. I am excited about this because the original kits didn't and I don't have to rig my own up. I hope they fit.

I also ordered the wiring harness. Seems to be of decent build quality. They could step it up a notch though.

Since there are already videos on how to install HID kits, I will snap some pictures while I'm in there and post them for you. Now I just have to find time to install them. More to come later.

CB, Just be cautious with that wire harness. Many of us have had the harness melt after just a few uses (myself included), albeit that was with a 55w kit.

 

You can always replace the harness with one from TRS (I think it can be had for $15-20 on eBay), which is of a much higher build quality.

Gonna be interesting to see how it performs compared to your old kit. They do look nicer on the outside!!! I agree that the harness may be a serious weak link. If you're not comfortable with it, you can rebuild it with thicker gauge wire and cut it to the proper length. It's pretty easy to do if you can purchase some parts there. The 14 gauge waterproof harness I built has been perfect through 3 nasty and salty Michigan winters. Besides one balast failure, my 35/5000 DDM's have been going strong for about 3 years.

It would be a smart thing for me not to attempt to build my own. I would have no idea on how to do that lol. Even if it is simple, its best I stay away.

 

But I have been searching ebay for a TRS harness, but nothing comes up labeled TRS. I am pretty much looking for a harness for the 9006 kit I bought, so I hope I am on the right track. I have searched the forum for links to what other people have bought, but that came up short with links that don't exist anymore or vague references to what they are using.

 

This is one that I have found:

CB, it looks like TRS pulled their harness only auctions from eBay, but the link Perf supplied for the harness is the exact one you want. It's a good harness and worth the money.

 

The eBay link you posted seems ok, but the wires seen like thin gauge.

 

I had tried the capacitors when I had my DDM installed (for three weeks, when I first got my edge), but they didn't provide any performance enhancement at all.

That one looks no better then the DDM harness. I just copied the DDM harness when I built mine and did use the DDM relay and ballast/bulb connectors. All I purchased was a heavy duty relay socket and 14 gauge wire from the auto parts store. Nice thing about rebuilding the DDM harness is that you can make it the proper length. I also completely sealed all the openings of the connected relay with silicone. It's really pretty easy to do even if you're not an electrical engineer!!!!!

I took a quick look at the thread you posted Perf. I will take some time and read through it. Seems like a great post!

 

This is the only thing holding me back from installing the HIDs. I don't want to rush it just because the parts are here. I want to use quality parts the first time I install it.

I was finally able to install my HIDs today. They look sharp. I can't wait to see how they preform at night. (I'll post night time pics later.)

With the bumper removed we were able to route all the cabling properly and easily install the bulbs and ballasts:

The driver's side ballast had to be installed this way to allow for the headlight to fit into place, so I cut some metal strapping to keep it from sliding out of it's mount.

Well, it's night now. Here are some pics and videos of the HIDs.

 

Here is the light pattern against my house. It seems like there is some ambient light that gets thrown above the hard cut. It happens on both sides but more so on the passenger side. I think you can see this in the road test video below also. Do you think this will be a big problem? Also, it does seem like the passenger side has a hotspot. I might need to rotate the bulb....that is going to suck!

Short Road test: Here you can see that the brights fire almost instantly with no buildup. I attribute that to the relay harness. Video came from my blackbox, so sorry about the video/audio quality.

These HIDs are extremely bright. Brighter than normal 55W kits. I am still testing to see if they are too bright though. Last night I drove around the city for about 30 mins. I didn't get flashed but there was one car in front of me that put his hazards on and started driving a bit crazy and pulled over. Now, crazy stuff happens all the time on the road over here so I can't say 100% it was because of my lights. Further time will tell.

They look good! It's either the length of the bulb or just the intensity (brightness) that is causing some light to spill above the cutoff line. I'm sure that little bit would not cause any issues (your DRL's cause more of a light scatter than that, anyway). As its the passenger side, you should be fine as well.

 

I had a Korean driving joke somewhere. Can't remember where I left it!

 

I was in Seoul a few months ago, driving was no more a concern that in southern California.

Was the headlight and front end assembly required to install these? iv done HIDs before and ever had to remove so much. im installing a hid on my 2013 tomorrow (maybe) and would like to know before i do it. not looking to get as creative as you with mounting the ballasts nice work. looks great!

I installed my last set of HIDs without removing the bumper and headlights. However, everyone on this site will probably tell you that installing the bulbs are a pain in the @$$ if you don't! I had my cousin here to help me, so it was quick to remove the bumper and get the kit properly mounted and installed. The equipment install is so much easier if you are not having to contorsion your hand to get the bulbs in if you remove your headlights. Not a requirement though.

I did my TRS kit today with bumper and headlight still in place and it was not a fun time! i wanted to rip out the air box and fuse pannel but thought it would be a bad idea so i decided against it.
