playgrnd Posted February 2, 2015 Report Share Posted February 2, 2015 Hi Everyone, I wanted to start off by saying that I've read several post on this topic and I have yet to find a solution to the "Exhaust smell" in my 2010 Edge cabin when the vehicle comes to stop (red light, stop sign, slow traffic, etc.). I have been reporting this problem to the Ford dealership since we owned the vehicle (5+ years now) and after having 3 PTU's replaced the smell continues to persist to the point that windows need to be lowered in order to recirculate the air in the cabin. My kids (6 and 8) constantly complain how bad the smell is and I'm now thinking how this could be affecting our heath. The dealership is constantly verifying the vehicle for leaks and they can't find anything abnormal... Besides the awful and annoying smell the vehicle operates very well. What causes the smell to occur: - Vehicle needs to be driven for 10 + minutes to warm up or left running for 10 minutes once started. - Heater needs to be turned on - Smell only occurs once the vehicle is at a full stop or when traffic is moving slowly. - Smell is more persistent when the weather is cold. - Smell is also present from the exterior of the vehicle and seems to be originating from the rear drivers side and somehow finds it's way to the inside of the cabin. Been dealing with this for a very long time and if anyone has a direction or a possible solution, excluding replacing the vehicle, it would be very much appreciated. I can't go to them with "vents under the bumper may not be operating correctly". I've been back and forth for years on this issue and would much prefer to have something tangible. DannyBoy Posted November 1, 2015 Report Share Posted November 1, 2015 Lance and Family, It sounds like you guys may have a faulty emissions Fuel Vapor containment system or a fuel system leak. 1. If you run the cabin climate control system when the heat is on in recirculate/recycle mode do you still smell the either partially burned fuel or fuel vapor? You shouldn't because in this mode it's only using the air inside the cabin and not any outside air. So for health concerns leave it on recycle when the heat is on so you don't smell any gas:) To run the climate control system in this manner, while looking on the Cabin controls hit auto and then hit the button that looks like a car symbol with a recirculate arrow inside it. Leave all the windows up and simply adjust the desired temp to your personal preference, and always ensure as long as your car has this issue always run it in this mode.
