Edge Exterior

I have read several reviews and I have a question for you all...

A few reviews compare the Edge to an SUV...

A few compare them to "wagons"

I have seen people pair them with GMC's Acadia and a wagon by Buick...

BUT...my thing is, the edge does not fit into the wagon catagory to me...It is more like an SUV, than a "wagon". BUT, I have not driven one...so I was hoping to get others opinions...who have seen then up close and/or driven them.

I saw one review where the man was saying that the Lincoln and Edge would not do as well next to these other "tall wagons" because the other tall wagons had 3rd row and all this and that. It made me laugh a bit because to me, these are not "wagons". they are a Crossover....car/SUV. Of course LONG wagons are going to have a 3rd row!

Anyway...I may be way off base here...but it just does not remind me of a wagon...

what do you all think? I'd love to hear opinions...

Thanks, and Happy Driving!!!!

I think what you've said is true. First off, many the car critics are hacks just coming out of college, or so old they are lucky to remember the meds. So these guys are trying to take this new style of vehicle and pigeon hole it into one slot. And they are doing a crummy job of it.

Edge is an SUV in it's characteristics because it first off can be AWD and it's a pretty hefty vehicle weight wise. But it's not a traditional SUV because it's not on a BOF frame work and is car based.

It's not a "mid-sized" SUV either because it's quite a bit shorter than those and only has three rows. HEY CRITICS! That's by design you freaking morons. Ok, I digress.

It has wagon like characteristics because of it's lift gate arrangement and it sort of looks like a car. But it's not.

It's a car because of it's frame and length, but it has higher ground clearance and the seating position is higher.

When you think of it, it also has some characteristics of the original mini-van before those became larger and longer. Those originally just had two rows of seats too.

This car is a CUV. It doesn't just blend car and SUV features. It takes from many automotive divisions and blends them. Some more than others. But it's not any one of the above. Until the critics get that, they will always be off the mark on their reviews.

As the lines between SUV's, Wagons, Minivans vanish you end up with something that has the charactoristics of all of them. The EDGE was slated from the start to be a true Crossover vehicle with the best of all worlds but with a specific target market. In my opinion it is a true crossover because it is not a body on frame like a SUV but has more the stature of a SUV than a wagon but some of the better rode manners (ride being one) of a car. Call it what you will , it really has a little part of all of these vehicles which makes it more versitle. I have driven cars, station wagons, minivans and sports cars during over the years and this vehicle has little bit of all of them in one package which makes it very appealing in my eyes however, there are allways some tradeoff between each catagory which I think confuses the heck out of reviewers because they don't know what catagory to grade them in and will allways find some reason why it doesn't live up to all the aspects of the above listed types of vehicles. See some of these review links in Ford Edge MKZ Discussion Forum posted by "SRANGER". Good luck!
