Edge Sport Tune?

I have heard that Ford is really pushing tunes that boost the performance of their ecoboost engines. The Focus ST picks up almost 100lbs of torque from a simple tune. What are the chances they come out with one for the Edge sport? We could see over 400lbs of torque if they do :)

From what I understand, its the same engine as the new F-150 but tuned or limited differently

Comparing the basic engine specs on the Ford Website I see that the F150 gets HP of 325@5750RPM on regular fuel versus 315@4750 using 93 Octane fuel in the Edge.

Torque is 375@3000 in the F150 versus 350@2750 in the Edge.

 

So I'm not sure what other differences there are, but at least one of the videos in this forum talks about them being the same engine so it looks as though there is potential for higher Torque and HP.

 

Whether you'd want to rev that high to access the full HP is a different matter. Presumably your fuel consumption would be appalling. But it's all about Torque in the main, as its rare you actually drive a vehicle flat out. (Ok Im just speaking for myself now)

The bad part about doing a tune without upgrading engine accessories and/or internals is a drop in reliability. Any car with a factory turbo can easily be tuned to increase HP and torque. However, all the parts that are connected to the engine somehow are not validated for the higher specs and may wear faster or even malfunction completely. I mean if it were me, I'd still do it, but I'd research the weak links in my power train beforehand.

Right...that is always a risk you take modifying a car. The only issue I would be worried about is the transmission handling over 400lbs of torque. I think everything else would be fine but not too sure about this transmission.

The advantage to using a Ford tune is you can be sure it's safe for the other components since it maintains the factory warranty.

Considering the MKX is rated at 335/380 with the same powertrain I think it will safely handle 400 torque.

Yeah that is the best part about the Ford tune...everything stays under warranty. I think if we can get it up to 400lbs of torque we may very well see mid to low 5 seconds for 0-60...which is very impressive for a car of this size.

The 2.7.EB is not part of the Ford performance program. Any mods you do could void your warranty if there are issues. I nice to think about the extra power you can get out of the 2.7, but I lease and is not worth the headache to me. I'm curious to see if there will be a performance difference between the Edge and the MKX as the MKX is projected to have more horsepower and torque from the factory.

MKX is also heavier so it's probably a wash.

 

Even if the Edge sport isn't on the current factory tune list that doesn't mean they won't add it later.

Do you have a link to the 2016 MKX weight? I've been trying to find out how much it weights. They could add the 2.7 later to the tune list, but I doubt it. The 3.5EB has been out for a while now, and the only thing they offer is an exhaust for the F-150.
