NAV SCREEN BLACK OUT

Recommended Posts

Hello need some help for my 2012 limited, 60k miles.

All was fine w/ the nav system until today when I started it up and the screen was black. Thought it was rebooting but sync icon or FORD logo never came on while driving for an hour.

I disconnected the battery for a minute then reconnected.....radio came on for awhile, but screen still black.

Radio went out after a minute, screen still black.

Aside from disconnecting the battery is there anything else I should try??

Nothing. But I think you should disconnect the battery for ~ 10 minutes. The APIM is still covered by a 5 year unlimited mileage warranty. So you can take it to the Dealer.

This is good news, thank you. Was there a letter sent to owners about this for the Edge? Where can I get a copy to bring to the dealer?

In the mean time I'll try disconnecting the battery and pull fuse 29.

Thanks again

No change, screen still black.... will see if dealer will fix under warranty.

If there are other options like aftermarket systems that integrate and mimick OEM ....... please chime in.

Thanks

Omar 302,

I'm make an appointment w/ the dealer tomorrow. Will check back in later.

Have a great day...

Very strange. I'm all primed-up to call the dealer today for an appointment.

This morning I start the car and suddenly SYNC logo lights up and it starts booting-up after being dead for 2 days, wtf ???

Now it's working flawlessly again.....Not sure what to do now.

My '12 Edge did this around labor day, after driving most of the way home, we fueled up, started the car, and the screen was black.. no radio, etc. After getting home, about an hour later, it still hadn't turned on. I went out later that evening, and it started out black, but about 15 min in, it did the sync logo, and it started coming up.

Yesterday we drove back from atlanta (about a 2 hr drive) turn off the car to get gas... and the screen is black again. I have driven it a few times since it stopped.. and it hasn't come alive yet.

Hi Heffelfinger007,

Is the screen still inoperative? Let me know, and I'll assist.

Hi, it did eventually come back on a day or so later, but now I'm away, and my wife just drove to knoxville and back, and today the screen is again inoperative. I suppose I'll have to make an appointment to bring it in when I get home tomorrow, but my wife is very frustrated. She is going to try pulling the fuse for a while to see if it resets.

Heffelfinger,

If she's able to get the system to reset, I recommend performing the latest update. You can find it in your Owner account: Owner.Ford.com Once you're logged in, select the SYNC & HOW TOS tab then CHECK FOR SOFTWARE UPDATES. She'll need to visit the dealer if the screen does not come back on.

Keep me posted.

My screen has been blacked out for several days now. It has been blacked out several times since I've owned my Ford Edge a year and a half ago. What do I need to do to get this fixed?

Take it the dealer. The APIM, the heart of the MyFord Touch, has an extended warranty, 5 years from original purchase date and since your Edge is a 2012 it should still be covered.

I took my Edge to the dealership to get the APIM replaced and they did with no problems. But now in the top right corner of the screen it is showing information instead of navigation. Do I have to pay to get navigation reinstalled or just load up the maps I have on my SD card?

Hi rxk92082,

Rkirby is correct! You will need to take it back to the dealer to have them reset the update to the version that includes Navigation.
