Ignition on front power source?

Has anyone figured out how to make the front passenger "cigarette lighter" power source ignition only powered? My VW turns off power once the ignition is turned off and it's a great feature since I don't have to constantly plug in my radar detector in and out.

Thanks

I wasn't aware that it provided uninterrupted power.

This weekend my Edge was off and I needed to charge my phone. So I plugged in my car charger to the 12v port on the passenger side, and there was no power. That I remember*. So I ended up just using one of my portable chargers.

*Note: I was under the influence of about a 12 pack at that point. So take it for what it's worth.

Note: If used when the vehicle is not running, the battery will discharge. There may be insufficient power to restart your vehicle. <- directly from user manual

The manual certainly implies the power point is always on.

Run the vehicle for full capacity use of the
power point. To prevent the battery from
discharging accidentally:
• Do not use the power point longer than
necessary when the vehicle is not
running.
• Do not leave devices plugged in
overnight or when you park your vehicle
for extended periods.

It seems to vary from vehicle to vehicle and year to year as to whether certain power points are always on or not.

Correct. Because I just went out there again, opened up my passenger door, plugged in my charger, and no power. I didn't turn the car on at all.

2015 Ford Edge Sport?

So just sent out to my car this morning and didn't turn ignition on/car on and my charger had no power either UNTIL I turned it on... WTF is going on here?!

Does it shut off after a certain amount of time? Anyone know what the logic is here?

All I know is there is generally a 10 minute "courtesy" power ON after engine is turned off unless (driver?) door is opened before that time is up. There is also, at least on 2011 & newer, a battery saver timeout of 45 minutes (or less if the battery level is detected to be at threshhold before that). Logic is primarily to allow accessories to be run without using engine power, such as traveling with passengers, running a short errand, vacuuming the interior etc.

It's called delayed accessory power and it stays on for 10 minutes or until you open the door.

Can you explain how the feature works step by step?

I've been using the 12V power port in the middle armrest and have noticed no power in it until I turn the car on as well.

Stayed on after I shut the car off, locked, and came back 25 minutes later.....
