(Disclaimer: I have no idea how to describe this, but it annoy's me to no end!)

I have an 07 Edge that I love everything about... EXCEPT this:

Does anyone know why when you spray wiper solution on the windshield the wipers use the following pattern to clean:

Clean/Wipe 3 times continuously...

5 second delay then cleans/wipes 1 additional time

Can this be changed? It would be perfect if it just stopped after the initial cleaning. The last one is totally unnecessary and does nothing but cause annoying streaks always in my line of vision!

Please help!

Thanks.

it's actually a feature. it described in the manual. I don't know of a way to stop it.

i actually wish there was a momenty "flick" that you can do that will do one wipe w/o the cleaning solution dispensing. same goes for the back wiper although it does not do the last swipe after 5 seconds.

if you quickly press the end of the stick, it will do a single wipe without wiper fluid. It's in the manual too...

Actually, I like the feature.

Have you never been annoyed because you must activate the wiper again after they have stopped to get that last bit of water that runs down the windshield?

They must not salt the roads where you are. This feature is such a pain. The windshield gets clean then, OOOPPS, all smudged up!

On the topic of windsheilds and wiper blades. We had a nice ice storm here last week. While I was cleaning the half inch of ice off the EDGE, I pulled the main driver side wiper back to get the ice build up off it, when it slipped out of my hand and sprung back into place on the windshield. Well to my surprise the ice still built up on the wiper "cracked" my windshield. I was astonished, I have never had a bit of ice break a windshield of any of my vehicles before. I know it`s my fault for letting the wiper go and spring back to the windshield but hey, I remember back in the day driving through an ice storm with one hand out the window smacking the wiper off the window to keep the ice from building up, and never cracked a window before.

I was at the dealer on Friday to get them to check out the wobble noise coming from my rear tires (they said they are cupped and can`t do anything about it, only 9months old), the dealer said there is nothing they can do about the windshield, it`s not a warranty item (Of course, but what the hell?)

Anyways, a word of caution these windows are fragile!!!

Even better than Rain-X, I have started using Aquapel on all of my windshields. Excellent product. We have been driving in a hard rain and only had to use delayed wipers while everyone else had fast wipers on. :)

As for the extra wipe that this thread started with, on our 2013 Edge there is a menu option to turn the feature on or off. I think the previous owner of ours had it on, and they lived in up-state New York, so the result was a wiper etched windshield that we replaced..

Treat ALL exterior glass with Rain-X. It seals the glass pores and Ice comes off in sheets.

I found a better product that lasts a lot longer. Clean your windshield with water, then I use SuperClean degreaser, follow with clay bay (I use water as a lubricant), dry and finish Carbona wax. Buff with a microfiber towel. Lasts and lasts, nothing sticks to it. Bugs wash right off.
