No gas struts on hood? WTF?!

It's just odd, that's all. Every car or truck I have owned in the past 10 years has had gas struts that assist with lifting and hold up the hood. The last car I had that didn't have them was a Ford Escort. My BMW had them. My F250 has them. My Explorer has them. I expected a $37,000 Edge to have them.

As for weight causing lower gas mileage, maybe somebody can explain the fact that my 2003 4WD Explorer with a 4.6L V8 gets better gas mileage than our new AWD Edge. I am fairly sure that at about 5,000 lbs, it is heavier than my Edge. The explorer averages 16.5 MPG in the city.

The 3.5L takes a few thousand miles to loosen up. Plus it's winter and the winter fuels suck. Should be a lot better in a few months.

I agree...but the Explorer is currently using winter fuel as well. In the summer time, with summer blends, it still gets about the same because the AC pulls the fuel mileage down a bit. I assume that this is true for the Edge as well.

Probably, but remember the part about it taking a few thousand miles to loosen up.

Off topic, but what oil are you using in your Edge akirby?

Nothing, since I haven't bought one yet. But I use motorcraft 5W-20 in my Fusion and Aviator and that's what I'll use in the Edge/MKX. We'll probably be buying later this year. The factory 5W-20 is a synthetic blend and I haven't seen a compelling reason to switch to anything else.
