Toyota Motor Corporation is adopting SmartDeviceLink, Ford’s open-source smartphone app interface software; automotive suppliers QNX Software Systems and UIEvolution also are adopting the technology, with plans to integrate it into their products

I wonder how this is different from Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Looks like Sync 3 will support all three then?

It appears to be vehicle and phone platform independent so spotify would work on an iphone in a Ford and an android in a Toyota.


Whereas carplay and android auto are proprietary to their phone platforms.
