akirby Posted March 5, 2016 Report Share Posted March 5, 2016 They will stay powered on until the door is opened for sure. After that it seems to vary by model. Sometimes one port stays powered and one doesn't. Just test it by shutting off the vehicle and opening the door, then check the ports. WingNut Posted March 5, 2016 Report Share Posted March 5, 2016 I don't think any of them stay active all the time. I believe they stay active for ~10 minutes and then they shut off. That is just my experience and I remember reading about it here. But since the new change in forum configuration, I am not going to even try to search for it. Bobs2015EdgeSport Posted March 23, 2016 Report Share Posted March 23, 2016 I ran into this very same perplexing problem, when I first got my 2015... that is, will they stay on or not? Here is what I determined: IF you're simply running a very low current draw item (like a cellphone charger adapter, or in my case, a dashcam), my outlets seem to stay "hot" for hours, even overnight. BUT, when I plug-in my magnetic revolving rooftop light (I do some fire dept. volunteer work), it was turned-off (by the car) within 10 seconds of turning-off the ignition. Obviously, while parked hazardously at a fire scene, that would never do... so, because I have a two-way radio that runs off of a heavy wire run directly from the car's battery, I disconnected the power port in the rear of the car and rewired it directly to my non-standard heavy battery lead in the rear. Now, that power port is "hot" all the time, being fed directly from the battery, so I can run my magnetic roof light (and anything else) for as long as I need to! 2 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I have a radar detector plugged in and it stays on for at least an hour after I turn the car off, but shuts off after maybe 3 hours? I've yet to pinpoint the duration of time yet. The detector has a feature that shuts itself off after 4 hours without the vehicle moving (9500ix with GPS), but power is cut to it sometime before then. Bobs2015EdgeSport Posted March 24, 2016 Report Share Posted March 24, 2016 I have a dashcam that is hardwired directly into the forward power port, and, presumably because it draws almost nothing, the camera can usually stay on for hours after I shut off the car... although, occasionally, I will likewise hear it shut off (it beeps) sometimes as soon as I turn off the ignition.
