Not sure how much weight my vehicle is rated for, mainly would be using it to help people move and making runs to the dump. I would appreciate any advice you guys can give me! Thank you! JP-WI Posted May 1, 2016 Report Share Posted May 1, 2016 I just put the Curt 12036 on my 2014 last week Wednesday. The install is challenging because of the car, not because of the hitch. While Amazon says this is a Class 1 hitch, Curt says it is Class II. I really like the look of round bars more than the look of the other choices that all had square bars. Here are the products I purchased for the install. The hitch took about an hour and 15 to install. The wiring took under an hour. I tapped into the power lead from the rear power point. This is fused to 20 amps. The fuse in the kit is 10 amps, so I put that fuse in between the power point and the converter box. In theory, the fuse to the converter should blow before the rear power point blows. I did buy the 17/32 drill bit for the installation. If you don't have one, it makes fishing the bolts easier than using a 1/2" because there is clearance for the fish wires. The challenges you will have are dropping the exhaust and fishing the bolts. Dropping the exhaust is simply a muscle fight with a pry bar to remove the rubber mounts. It goes back together very easily. Fishing the bolts will be a challenge because clearance is tight. Patience will help here. I did my job with the back of the vehicle on oil change ramps. JP-WI Posted May 1, 2016 Report Share Posted May 1, 2016 Also, my 2014 with the 3.5 in it is rated for 2000 pounds towing, 200 pounds tongue weight. This class II is rated for 3500/350. I've had my hitch installed for over 2 years but never installed the wiring kit (oem). Anything you can offer would be greatly appreciated. I imagine my 2012 would have similar wires and locations. JP-WI Posted May 2, 2016 Report Share Posted May 2, 2016 I pulled the panel to the side, cut the hot wire on the power point, then spliced it into the wiring circuit. There are two wires going to that power point. I think a black and grey. If yours is black and grey, black is probably the hot power lead. I made sure to put the 10 amp fuse just beyond the splice. It was tight working quarters, but I do think it will be a better solution than running all the way to the battery.
