Electronic parking brake question

Recommended Posts

I noticed that the Edge (and a few others I've looked at) have the parking/emergency brake on the console area where it appears it's fairly easy to accidentally press.

1) Is this parking brake the same as an emergency brake?

2) If so, then what happens if you're moseying along (say, 60-75 mph) and someone accidentally hits/presses the parking brake?

1 - yes

2 - you have to pull up on it to engage it and you have to hold it to activate it while moving

Accidental engagement is not a problem.

Ah, OK. So pull up for "official" emergency braking usage. Push in for like when you're parking and whatnot.

I only ask because when I was test driving a few vehicles with it, I accidentally pushed it because I was resting my arms on the console.

LOL

Thanks!!!

No - you pull up once to activate the parking brake and push down to de-activate it. It will also deactivate automatically if you hit the gas with the driver's door closed.

If you're moving and need to activate it for emergency braking you pull up and hold it.

That's the way it works on my 2013 Fusion and 2016 MKX - I presume Edge is the same.

Saved my ass once. That's enough.

If you live where it snows it's just.... Fun.

Cars have taken the fun and skill out of driving. Traction control, abs, electronic brake. A blithering idiot can drive in the snow... and said idiot is still afraid to drive in the snow :)

Now instead of driving and having fun, it's... let's put crap on our car(HIDs, and LEDs) it doesn't need.
