Waving?

There seems to be a lot more Edges on the road than before. Maybe it’s because I drive one now (I noticed them a lot before; one reason I looked for one before I was lucky enough to find mine), or maybe there’s just more being driven. Of course, I see a lot of Honda Odysseys, small Toyotas and other Hondas, and Mercedes and BMWs, and so on. I just notice the Edges too.

Anyway, I was wondering if Edge drivers think of themselves as sort of a club, like when the new VW Bugs came out. If so, do Edge drivers acknowledge each other and give a little wave, like Bug or motorcycle drivers? I haven’t done it to other Edges, nor have I noticed it, but I was just wondering.

As a previous vette & sportbike owner, and a current owner of a S2000 I am well acquainted with the practice of a wave gesture when passing a like vehicle. I did it when I first got my Edge to another second gen. owner who just looked at me like I was crazy. Given the large number of Edge vehicles on the road you might find yourself waving at others and not getting a second look. Even current Corvette owners are trying to promote "The Wave" again as its use was / is fading. Anyway, go for it and see what happens. Hell we could invent a wave where the Edge driver displays his hand on edge, tomahawk style as a happy motoring gesture from one Edge owner to another. It's bound to get folks attention, but they may not have a clue why or WTH. :headscratch:

After continuing to see more and more Edges around, I've come to realize that they're getting to be almost as common as Explorers, or so it seems to me. I guess we're not as unique or "exclusive" as I originally thought, like Bug drivers used to be, for example. So no, I wouldn't think we'd wave to each other (still haven't done it or seen others do it).

In my Edge...no.

In my Mustang I won't wave, but I do take notice of other Mustangs around me. Sometimes starting up a conversation in a parking lot or gas station. A few times a year I'll get a light flash or wave from another Mustang owner. But I think I get more attention from people in cars that have no chance in a race. I just laugh because I don't mess around on public roads. You take your Subaru somewhere else.

I was always amused by "old school" HOG riders when I would extend a hand when passing them. There was, and perhaps still is, ill will expressed when passing them on my (as you describe) "crotch rocket". Fast forward to the mid 90's and later as HOG's became a fashion statement and their new riders didn't get the memo to ignore sportbike riders, we would get many more waves than not. I liked the change.

I still wave to most well behaved sport bikes. The ones I don't are the "squids" (contraction of "squirrely kids") that are doing stupid things like racing, wheelies, stoppies and other stunts on public streets.

BTW, I am very much "old school" but not on a hog... I've been riding Gold Wings for over 30 years. We like to tease Harley riders about their oil leaks and they tease us about our Tupperware bikes but it's all fun. It doesn't really matter what you ride as long as you ride.

Having come over from the Explorer world just a few months ago, Ex owners never wave as we would have been continuously flailing our arms about! I don't wave in the Edge either. When riding the bike (big v-twin, and usually long highway miles) I always wave. Just a quick arm out or low wave - brotherhood of the open road and all that stuff.
