Bought 2016 Ford Edge Sport

Hello!

As topic title states, I'm a new owner of a 2016 Ford Edge Sport AWD. It has the 401A package, 21" wheels, Panoramic Vista roof, and cold weather package (I live in Cleveland, OH!). The Edge is Black Ext / Black Int.

I've been eyeing the Ford Edge ever since I sat in the 2015 Edge at the 2015 Cleveland Auto Show (It's been over a year!). I've been comfortable with Ford (used to own a 1992 Mustang GT I modded the hell out of) so I wanted to buy a Ford, and at the auto show, the SUV I fell in love with was the Edge, so it felt right.

As of today, I've owned the vehicle for two weeks now..... and I love it. I've noticed a lot of negative reviews and sentiments on this specific "impressions board" so I thought I'd take the time to post a positive review!

I'm 29, so technology is a big deal to me. I purposely held off buying a new vehicle (2015 vs 2016) because I wanted to wait for Sync 3 and I am glad I did. I really like the voice commands, the layout, the options, the navigation, the ease of use, the speed, etc. Just about everything about the Sync 3 system I am very happy with. Also, one of the selling points for me was Ford's stance to integrate BOTH Android Auto and Apple Car Play into Sync 3. Too many manufactures are choosing one or the other, alienating a huge populous of people. Ford is doing it right by allowing both systems to function (when it releases). This gives amazing family flexibility and life style/choice flexibility too.

If there was 1 complaint/suggestion I have for Sync 3 it's in the controls for Audio Presets. I like listening to a lot of different stations searching for music (especially on Sirius). Being given only 6 channels per preset is kind of restrictive in my opinion due to the actions you need to go through to switch a Preset back and forth. I wish it was easier to switch presets or have all the stations in one, so I can get all my channels faster and easier.

I've read a lot of positive reviews on the new 2.7L Ecoboost engine and I can see why. Great power, acceleration, fun to drive, nice to listen to, and from what I read is very well built. Also, just saying to people, "Yeah.... it's got twin turbos" makes me smile :)

Ride can be a little rough on bumpier roads, but it's expected with 21" rims, low profile tires, and the stiffer "sport tuned suspension". So I expected it and am okay with it. But on the highway, this thing just glides. So effortlessly it seems. The highway drive is probably the best I've ever experienced in a vehicle. You HAVE to keep an eye on your speedometer. You can be doing 80+ and have no idea. It's that smooth.

I love the daytime running lights. Gives it a mean look that I like. The panoramic vista roof is gorgeous, and overall everyone I've shown the vehicle to really likes it. I get a lot of looks.

So far (I know it's still VERY earlier) I have no encountered any problems. Keeping my fingers crossed. So far so good. I really like this vehicle and feel it has everything I need. It's got space, it's comfortable, it's fun to drive when I am alone yet can haul kids if I need it to. It's a perfect blend of everything for me. Very happy with purchase.

I attached a picture. Freshly detailed (by myself). Hope you like it!

If you get a better stereo (like the Revel system) you'll see how bad Sirius sounds and you won't want to listen to any stations.

I never thought there was a big difference between Sirius and mp3s with the Sony system. But with the Revel system it's very noticeable.

I still listen to a few stations.

So last night it finally hit me that this is my vehicle. I drove to Chipotle for dinner, parked in a far corner of the parking lot, and as I came out I looked over at my Edge and was like DAMN!!!! That's my car!

So happy :)

I was reading the vehicle manual last night, got into the portion about maintenance, and it said under "Normal Driving Conditions" the oil change is every 10,000 miles? Seriously??? That seems very long for a turbo engine, on a "Sport" vehicle that will probably driven with frequent hard acceleration. So, my question is.... at what interval do you all change oil on your Ecoboost engines? I was thinking like twice a year or every 4k miles????

True, but since oil has an ever-increasing number of functions to perform in the Ecoboost engine, it helps to err on the side of caution. If you can be guided by a UOA (such as from Blackstone), that works too. So if oil life is confirmed as good up to 10,000 miles, go forth & apply! But I have my doubts that the Motorcraft filter will last that long, 5K for sure it will be a solid performer. If you want to go 10K, assuming the SynBlend oil holds up, use a fully synthetic extended drain interval filter, or at least replace just the filter and any oil that is lost during the filter change. So 5K = filter change, 10K = oil & filter change, 15K = filter change, etc.

Thanks for the replies guys. I got two more questions.

1.) I started driving yesterday with the transmission in "Sport" mode and I couldn't believe the obvious difference. I"m always driving in "Sport" mode now, but I had a question. Say, I ended up getting on the highway, I'm rolling at 65mph and I am still in "Sport" mode. Am I able to pop it up into "Drive" while moving or must a be at a complete stop like any other shifting?

2.) When getting an oil change, I will take the vehicle to the dealer. The default oil they use seems to be the "Synthetic Blend" oil. Am I able to request they use a Full Synthetic oil? I don't care about price increase, I just want the better stuff.

And if getting a fully syththetic oil change at a dealer is not cheap at all. They really give it to you.

If you are serious about synthetic, I'd suggest going to WalMart to get your synthetic oil (Mobil 1 is $26 for a 5 quart jug). Also grab a filter. Then either do it yourself or take that oil/filter to a shop that will change it using your parts and you just pay labor. The markup the dealerships put on synthetic oil is just nuts.

Think it's fast now? Imagine getting a tune and freeing up an additional 100hp in it!

Nice to see the difference in launching with and without TC. Also noticed there wasn't too much wheel hop which is good. How was the torque steer?

Mine is AWD and I have yet to launch it from a dead stop. Still breaking it in but can't wait.

Tq steer is present but depending on road conditions and traction makes it seem to vary. Though I often think I subconsciously compensate for the tq steer by ateering to the left when I want to go straight. My old 03 V6 altima has had the worst tq steer in my life and its what I compare all fwd cars to. Edge is minimal imo
