Will Newer Style 2011-2014 Outside Mirrors fit older Gen 1's?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, new to this forum... I have an 09 MKX and I need to fix the driver side mirror. Been looking around online and from all the pictures I can see, it looks like the later 2014 mirrors will fit on the older models. Vehicle doors themselves and mirror placement on them doesn't appear to have changed at all. The only thing I'm uncertain about is whether the harness connection is different. My particular model has the puddle lamps, heated mirrors, memory, and power position controls. I want to add blind spot mirrors when I upgrade. Looking at part numbers CT4Z-17682-DAPTM & CT4Z-17683-DAPTM.

I added blind spot mirrors to my 09 MKX. (They actually came out with it in late 09 model). It's simple, just change the glass (pops right out).

Heres a link the one for the passenger's side http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-OEM-LH-REAR-VIEW-MIRROR-GLASS-2009-2011-FORD-EDGE-2009-2010-LINCOLN-MKX-/281559373222?fits=Year%3A2009%7CMake%3ALincoln%7CModel%3AMKX&hash=item418e3f15a6%3Ag%3A-mwAAOSweW5VTtXM&_trkparms=pageci%253A932a95da-38e0-11e6-9886-74dbd180eedc%257Cparentrq%253A7ad770d71550a6a4a6adc597fffc6c58%257Ciid%253A19

Do a search on Ebay for "2009 lincoln mkx mirror".

Be certain to read the specs carefully for the drivers side. I got glass for puddle lamps, heated, auto memory adjust and auto tint. I paid the just over a hundred for the drivers.

To pop out the old glass, push the inside of the mirror in with your fingers. If you look behind the glass through gap and you will see a plastic piece on the back of the glass snaps onto another plastic piece on the motor. Put a large flat head screwdriver in between and unsnap the clips. The new glass just snaps back on, push until you hear a pop.

Can't say, never read where anyone has ever tried it. My initial guess is there's a difference, but I really don't know for certain. Too expensive to expirment with. (Close to $400 ea.)

When you look up 2012, 13, 14 etc. mirrors, none list 09 as being comparable. Even the 08 isn't shown as compatible with the 09.

Slap on a chrome cover, make it look spiffy.

The harness connections look the same in all of the pictures I can see on eBay and the doors didn't change at all. Just don't know how the pins line up in the harness but I think I can get em to work. My original mirrors are chrome covered. I thought I might go with the black paint to match ones this time. Wanna tone down the chrome a little... She's getting black wheels eventually too. :)

The newer style also had an option of LED turn signal indicators, might want to consider them also, though you'll have to figure out the wiring for them. There was a member who wanted to do the opposite (install the older larger mirrors on his 2013 MKX), they bolted on fine but he got BLIS error, which I think is irrelevant in your case since you don't have BLIS nor do the replacement mirrors you need.

I'm gonna give it a shot I think. The ones I want do not have the turn signals or the Blind Spot Indication System. Before I order, I'll take my mirror off and do one more comparison on that harness connection but I think if the mirrors I buy have the same power options my current mirrors have (which they do), I should be ok.

I like the larger older mirrors. Much easier to see and use. Speaking of liking 08-10 sruff beyter than the 11-14 stuff- I thought the 11-14 dashboard looked terrible compared to the 08-10 models. Im takling about the top of the dash and the portion that shades the gauges. I was shocked at how cheap the 11-14s looked. We had a 10 and a 12 parked side by side and the 12 dash was just terrible in comparison. Oddly shaped, cheap looking materials ,and its so huge and in your face that it stands out evem more. Anyways back to your mirror discussion. Sorry for the hijack

I will hopefully be able to post an update in a few weeks with the results. I have a vacation coming up and I just scheduled some more work on the truck so money's tight for a bit. I just saw a 2011-2014 Edge with the newer style mirrors out in the parking lot on my way to lunch today. The actual mirror part doesn't even really look much smaller to me than the older style aside from it having the blind spot mirror in the corner which is what I want. Looks like they just positioned the glass down further in the newer style housing. The newer style mirror assembly almost looks like a larger version of the Taurus mirror to me. So if this works out, I'll be trading the larger, chrome clad almost mini-truck style mirrors in for some nice sleek black streamlined mirrors. Taking a cue from the Europeans I guess. Real autobahn stuff here fellas!!! Lol

Figured I'd roll the dice on the pigtails lining up right in the connector. The connector looks the same but I was hoping if the powered stuff is the same between the old one and the new one, I may get lucky and the pins might match up. So I didn't want to gamble on any gadgets I don't already have. I'm pretty sure the mirrors with BLIS have turn signals on the front. I don't know if turn signals come on mirrors that don't have BLIS, but either way, I don't have BLIS or turn signals in my current mirrors so my assumption is that the wires won't line up in the connector. At least this way I know everything's there on both sides, so if I have to butt splice or rebuild the pigtail or something, so be it. It'd be nice if it was plug and play but I'm not betting on it. We shall see!

Success!! The new 2011-2014 mirror was delivered about 5 minutes ago. Got it bolted onto my 2009 and it plugged right in no problem. Everything works great. Ordering the passenger side mirror in a couple minutes. When that comes in, I'll get the mirror caps painted to match the car and we'll be in business. I'll post some pics of today's mock-up in a little while.
