I know on the 2016 it is electric power steering instead of hydraulic, not sure about your year. Is it like this every time? What about at speed? You might want to get it checked out. If it's hydraulic (non Ecoboost engines), you should do a drain & fill on the reservoir and see if that helps. I like to take out as much fluid out of the reservoir as possible, fill it back up, turn the steering wheel lock to lock a few times (never holding at lock) to get the air out. Drive around for a few miles. Then repeat the process twice more. That should get the fluid looking nice & new. Use Mercon LV. Also check underneath for any signs of leakage from the power steering lines. If you have the Ecoboost engine, I believe you will have electric steering, in which case the EPAS module or the steering angle sensor may be bad. I cannot comfortably steer at speed with anything less than a one-handed firm grip. My 2012 Explorer is effortless in both parking speeds and driving speeds. omar302 Posted July 31, 2016 Report Share Posted July 31, 2016 The 2011-2014 Edge (V6, not sure of the Eco) have normal hydraulic power assisted steering. It is generally hard/harder than other non-sport cars. The 2011+ Explorer has EPAS (Electrical Power Assisted Steering) & I is much lighter than the 2011-2014 Edge.
