Engine Went to Idle While Driving - 2016 Edge

2016 Edge - I was driving at about 50 mph when the engine lost power. The dash said "See Manual" and the seat belt light came on. The engine was idling with no throttle response. I drifted to the side of the road, shut down the engine and restarted. Still no throttle response. Then I clicked the seat belt on the passenger seat (which was empty) and the throttle response immediately returned. I completed the drive to work without further incident. Now the seat belt light is off but the check engine light is on.

Is this related to the throttle body discussion or is this a sensor issue? Any ideas?

Not to make light of what no doubt is an unsettling situation (I too have a 3.5 2016, no issues so far).

With all these questions about passenger seat belt and TB and what made him do it, I had "The knee bones connected to the...leg bone...the leg bones connected to the...hip bone." :)

Good luck and hopefully the dealer can quickly diagnose and fix the issue you've had. I do have to say all this talk with these 3.5s I really wish I wouldn't have gone with the "upgraded" engine.

I find myself driving and wondering if this stalls where / what will I do. Shouldn't have to be thinking like that with a brand new vehicle. If it does happen to me I'm going to be very upset I traded in my '14 f150 that I had zero issues with.

To answer the "why" question, I thought it was the seat belt alert on the dash. It turns out it was the airbag light (wasn't wearing my glasses). My only shot was to connect the seat belt since the light (I thought) was on. Going home from work the airbag light was out and the check engine light went out as well. Driving into work the next day, same thing. Engine went to idle. Very unsettling. Airbag light came on. Click the seat belt and it went out - check engine light is still on. I have an appointment at the dealer tonight (if I make it).

25 March 2017, 2016 Edge Titanium 3.5L. Build date 02/04/16. Approx 7800 miles, no previous problems.

Driving in town, car went into 'limp mode', had 'wrench' on and seatbelt light on. No response to accelerator. Pulled into first side street. Rough idle, I shut down and restarted. Now normal operation, drove home, no problem. I have used only Exxon and Shell fuel. Throttle Body?
