Really excited to take my 16 Edge AWD up to the snow to romp around! Maybe get some camping in and hiking/backpacking, can't wait. I had been thinking about it lately with some of the other members discussing how well their Edge has handled in snow (and sand), and I love the way the Edge and even more specifically the AWD feel when you drive it.. wlepse Posted September 28, 2016 Report Share Posted September 28, 2016 Just be careful...the Edge AWD is not the best system I have driven. Don't get me wrong it will get the job done but my old Subaru and current Audi get the job done with less fuss and ground clearance. Also keep in mind the weight of the Edge. I found it was very difficult even with snow tires to stop and turn as well as my Audi with all seasons on. ABS kicks in a lot. But with that said it keeps you from being that idiot in the ditch that thinks their four wheel drive can do anything. junehhan Posted October 1, 2016 Report Share Posted October 1, 2016 I also second that you should be careful with your AWD setup. It is more of a car based setup that is not designed to be abused. While in Alaska, I saw multiple Edges along with other mildly AWD vehicles overheat their PTU's when trying to drive in deep snow. I am sure that our new Edge systems are more reliable, but it is still the same basic setup. It is basically the limitations you face in FWD based systems. Those of us with the Sports especially need to be cautious due to these massively wide 265 21 inch tires. If you can afford it, a set of snow tires on a new set of rims would be very beneficial as the stock tires are not designed to handle more than light snow. PaulSchott Posted October 5, 2016 Report Share Posted October 5, 2016 Oh yeah, Winter in Connecticut is supposed to be brutal this year and I have the only FWD Edge I've seen around here. This car was born in Louisiana and moved to Arizona, two areas where people don't order cars with heated seats. We had a mild winter last year and the Edge was pretty good in the snow but this year I will probably be using my wife's Grand Cherokee. Great ground clearance and a fantastic 4WD system. (Heated seats and mirrors.) Technical question: Will AWD emblem on the hatch help? Wasn't too much, but all the other cars were definitely slip-sliding all over the place... we zipped right past them. After we parked Walter (car's name), my buddy and I hiked a short distance up a nearby trail. James Costa Posted November 29, 2016 Author Report Share Posted November 29, 2016 It was a quick storm that came through! it was about 55F at my house when I drove up the hill, the temp at the snow line was 34F and it had just stopped coming down.
