I wanted to get something written up for those Edge Owners to have some quick reference to.

Version 1.0 - Initial Release Version - Does not contain Android Auto/CarPlay (early to mid model year 2016s)

Version 1.1 – Early update for Version 1.0 to correct minor bug issues

Version 2.0 - Only available on late build models of the 2016 and early 2017 model years. Version 2 does contain Android Auto.  The 2016 requires the USB to be replaced for CarPlay however the 2017 ships with the correct CarPlay usb hub.  Android Auto is functional in both from the factory.  There is no official 2.0 update that I know of.

Version 2.2 – This was initially released as an update for some 2016 Lincoln models in Dec. 2016.  As of writing this on 3/26/17 I am not aware of it being officially released for updating any Ford models. In Feb. 2017 I noticed that most Fords/Lincolns are being shipped from the assembly line with 2.2 in them. Version 2.2 does contain CarPlay/Android Auto.

For those that have a 2016 Ford Edge with V2.0 in it, the reason CarPlay does not work is because a CarPlay compliant USB hub is not installed in the vehicle. Hubs GJ7Z-19A387-B (white backlighting) and HC3Z-19A387-B (blue backing) are CarPlay compliant USB hubs that are a direct fit into the 2016 Edge. After some experimenting, the hub can be removed with a basic plastic trim tool without having to take anything else apart. Remove the rubber mat in the bin where the USB hub is and then take a thin plastic pry tool and slide it under the top or bottom and give it a little twist to get that side to pop out and then do the other end. You may need to hold the already released side out as it will want to pop back in.

If further information pertaining to this topic is received I will attempt to update this original thread. I would like to ask that opinions about Apple versus Android be kept out of this and the keep the topic on task.

LIST OF CONFIRMED CARPLAY COMPLIANT USB HUBS FOR THE 2016 EDGE.
GJ7Z-19A387-B (WHITE BACKLIGHTING) via JMR061
HC3Z-19A387-B (BLUE BACKLIGHTING) via KOMANDREW

I will not post links to the DL any SYNC3 update files as those seem to be constantly changing. You are on your own for that. There are separate update files for non-nav versus nav. No you can't add factory nav to a non nav unit this way.

So much for WiFi enabled updates. I wonder why they couldn't go that route

He's referring to the USB hub update, not the software.

I wouldn't worry about 1.1 unless you have some issue going on.  Whether or not future updates will be OTA, I do not know but I can confirm they have a code for it (OTA) in the Sync update history available to do dealers.

That's because it's not ready for self-installation yet - it only fixes a few specific problems that owners might have.   There will be a wi-fi installable update soon.

Bug fixes.  There is no documentation on it.

Does it reset all of your settings when you update?

What does it actually update?

I just installed the update myself last night... Only things listed as changed after the update was:

"Enhanced clarity of French and Spanish navigation instructions."

Personally I'm hoping it will fix the random changes to AM radio when playing from a BT device I've been experiencing.

No it did not mess with my settings.

I believe some bug fixes. For me occasionally my contacts don't download so this may help

V1.1 is no longer available to dealers.  One can only speculate it has been removed in preparation for a newer upgrade.

We can only hope. I emailed Ford an hour ago stating my disappointment. Asked for some details
