FROM FORD: "Ford issues safety compliance recall for certain 2015-16 Ford Edge vehicles to update antilock braking system (ABS) modules Ford is issuing a safety compliance recall for approximately 60 2015-16 Ford Edge vehicles to update antilock braking system (ABS) modules. Incorrect ABS module software may have been loaded into some vehicles when they were in for service. The incorrect software could disable electronic stability control (ESC), engine torque control, traction control (T/C), the warning lamp/indicator, the electronic parking brake (EPB) light and the EPB drive-away release function. ABS and electronic brake distribution (EBD) remain fully functional and the EPB can be applied. Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries associated with this issue. Affected vehicles include certain 2015-16 Ford Edge vehicles built at Oakville Assembly Plant, Feb. 9, 2015 to Aug. 12, 2016, which may have had software programmed during service between Aug. 6, 2016 and Sept. 28, 2016. ABS module replacement is no longer required AFFECTED VEHICLESVehicle Model Year Assembly Plant Build DatesEdge 2015-2016 Oakville February 9, 2015 through August 12, 2016 REASON FOR THIS COMPLIANCE RECALLSome of the affected vehicles may not conform to the requirements specified by Federal MotorVehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 126 Electronic Stability Control Systems and No. 135 LightVehicle Brake Systems. The vehicles may have been programmed during service with incorrectAnti-Lock Brake System (ABS) software that results in the following: The Brake System warning lamp will not illuminate when the Electric Parking Brake (EPB) is applied. The EPB automatic release-drive away release functions are disabled. The Brake System, ABS, and Stability Control warning lamps will not illuminate if a fault occurs in the ABS, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), or Traction Control (T/C) systems. ESC engine torque control and T/C is disabled and the stability control light will not illuminate during ESC or T/C activation. SERVICE ACTIONBefore demonstrating or delivering any new in-stock vehicles involved in this recall, dealers are toinspect the operation of the brake system warning lamp when the EPB is applied and, if necessary, reprogram the ABS module using Integrated Diagnostic Software (IDS) 102.05 or higher replace the ABS module. In addition, if dealer records indicate that an ABS repair occurred in service and the vehicle is not identified in OASIS, dealers should: Contact the owner and arrange a service date. Inspect the operation of the brake system warning lamp when the EPB is applied and, if necessary, replace the ABS module reprogram the ABS module. When the vehicle arrives, provide the customer with a copy of the Owner Notification Letter. Contact the Special Service Support Center (SSSC) via the SSSC Web Contact Site to have the vehicle added to this recall. This service must be performed on all affected vehicles at no charge to the vehicle owner. OWNER NOTIFICATION MAILING SCHEDULE Owner letters are expected to be mailed the week of November 28, 2016. Dealers should repair anyaffected vehicles that arrive at their dealerships, whether or not the customer has received a letter. NNew! RENTAL VEHICLES The use of rental vehicles is not approved for this program.
