If you're doing a lot of short trips a weak battery doesn't have time to recover from the cranking load. If it happens again get a new battery. ben senise Posted December 18, 2016 Report Share Posted December 18, 2016 2013 edge. is it the original battery? if so, it could be at its end of service life. don't forget that cold weather weakens a battery as well. i usually change my batteries pro-actively every 5 years max so i don't get stuck anywhere. yes, it could last another year or two but if you divide the price of a battery by 5, the annual cost is very small compared to what it "costs" (in time, frustration, potential danger, etc) if you can't start the car in a bad situation. 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

chefduane Posted December 18, 2016 Report Share Posted December 18, 2016 Lots of people think that cold can kill a battery, and it can. But heat can be as damaging, or worse. Most folks get about 3-4 years on a battery here in DFW. Really cold nights in winter (well, relatively cold - 19 F tonight and high of 30 F tomorrow) and can get up to 105 F during the summer. In 2011 we had 70 straight days over 100 F. Batteries dying all over the place. Best to get a Category or two above the OEM spec. 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

In the mean time I bought a Solar BA-7 battery tester and it showed my battery was low on its CCA and one cell was weak. It rated my battery as being in bad shape. But, I was having no problems (started fine), and chose to believe the Ford garage. Until one fateful Saturday afternoon at out local grocery store. Car full of groceries and click, click. I carry a jumper battery so no problem getting it started. Took it in bright and early Monday morning and had the largest battety that would fit put in. (Had a Ford coupon as well). Your battery is shot. Recommend you get the one designed for the Edge or MKX with factory towing (larger battery). And if you choose Motorcraft, look for a coupon on the Ford website. AGM battery lifespan is typically 7 years or more. If it gets cold enough in your area, also use a good full synthetic motor oil with 0W20 viscosity rating. Full synthetic 5W20 recommended year round. This is for the 3.5/3.7 engines. For the 2.0 Ecoboost, 0W30 or 5W30 is appropriate. Mobil1, Pennzoil Platinum, Quaker State Ultimate Durability etc. Amsoil is more expensive and not sold in stores, but that is my preferred goto. 2 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
