2016 Edge Sport Pricing Data Point

Just wanted to share our pricing from a purchase last night. We bought a 2016 Edge Sport. 401a, panorama roof, and cold weather package. It has a late-May build date, so it's been on the lot for a while. Only 25 miles on it when we test drove it.

MSRP was $46,365. Invoice was $44,298. We paid $36,865 for the Edge, and were out the door for a hair under $40,000. The only unusual incentive we qualified for was a $500 recent grad rebate. We financed it through our bank, so this wasn't tied to Ford Credit or any dealer financing.

$9,500 below sticker, and $7,433 below the dealer invoice. I'm pretty happy with that.

I didn't do much of anything, other than to be very patient. I've been tracking the "best price for everyone" on Edges I was interested in at local dealers for a few months. Found this one yesterday, about $2,000 less than when I'd last looked at it. The car has a 5/31/16 build date, so it had been on their lot for a while. Cars that don't sell cost them in carrying costs, so I suspect they were trying to move it. I didn't haggle or negotiate at all. I've seen that most similarly equipped Sports are listed at least $2,000-$3,000 more during the time I've been following the pricing.

One thing I can recommend is having a look at www.fightingchance.com. I ordered their packages for the 16 and 17 Edges, and they have a good strategy on how to get a good price. I was getting ready to use their method next week, but found that price yesterday. I e-mailed the fellow who runs that website, asking if he thought I should follow his method or jump on it. He suggested that I go buy it right away, as it was an unusually low price.

I did call two other local dealers to see if they could match or beat the price, given that they are closer to me. Neither could. Had to drive an hour to get to the dealer we bought it from, but that's no big deal.

A lot of what a dealer is able to do really depends on what factory to dealer incentives Ford is giving to the dealer. This is known as dealer-cash and is not available to the public. This can even be different from region to region. If a vehicle is not receiving any extra dealer cash from Ford, you really will not be negotiating very much below invoice if at all. These hidden incentives only available to the dealer are why you constantly hear about people being able to negotiate $10+k off of their Ford, Dudge, or Chebby 1/2 ton trucks. Very seldom will a dealer be willing to take an actual "loss" on the sale of a vehicle unless they have become desperate. You are correct that cars that do not sell have overhead associated with them as nearly every dealer finances their inventory. The same is true in the fine jewelry business as many finance their inventory.

Glad I found this thread. Trying to buy a 2016 Edge Sport with $49k sticker. For that money, I should buy a MKX Reserve with under 10k miles and go luxury. Any data on what I can expect to get a 2016 Edge Sport at this sticker for? Not that it's 2017, there has to be some debate or good price to make sense buying a year old car when new ones are sitting right next to it.

Would appreciate any help. I am looking for a red sport, 401a, smart cruise, panoroof, 21" black rims etc...

Hey Driv200. I don't know if this will help, but I picked up a leftover 2016 Edge Sport Dec. 1 that had been on the dealer's lot since June (build date, May 5, 2016). Ruby Red, 401A, cold weather package and the BAMR (panoramic roof) for just over 39K. Original sticker was $46,760. Only thing it didn't have that I'd have liked was the adaptive cruise package. I have the 20-in. wheels, not the 21s. This was in southern, Mass. I'd think you should be at least below $39K at this point, but YMMV.

I have over 4K miles on it already and LOVE it. No issues to report, though I did have to update the Sync3 system and buy a USB hub to get Apple Car Play working. Good luck. The Ruby Red is a real looker!

I have a 2016 Sport very similar to yours (401A, Pano roof) but Kona Blue Metallic and the 21-in wheels. I am interested in your Sync3 upgrade and USB Hub experience for Apple Car Play. I called Ford and they said later this year for 2016's and latest Sync3 available for download is still version 1 vs. version 2 ford.owner.com. Where and how was the upgrade done (dealer or DIY) and the cost?

Thanks and the Sport is an awesome machine. I agree the Ruby Red is a great color and would have preferred that color.

Hey richzx14. If you wait for Ford, the elusive update may never show up. They've been promising this for 2016 models for about a year now. That said, the update IS available and is a fairly easy DIY. This thread has all the info you need :http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/21394-sync-3-and-carplayandroid-auto-information/ Go to page 4 (postings around Dec. 12 or 13) for specifics on getting the update file, which you download to a flash drive and plug the flash drive into the vehicle's USB port. You'll also likely need a new USB hub, since most 2016s came with an older hub not enabled for Apple Car Play. That part is available from Ford dealers for about $55 and can be installed yourself. It's a bit of a pain to get the old hub out; the new just pops right in, though. You don't need the new hub if you're just doing Android Auto. The software update enables that as well. Car Play is convenient, though Apple Maps isn't as graphically nice as the Sync 3 system nav maps. (It looks washed out on my screen, anyway.) Hope this helps.

PS: I really like the Kona blue myself. I think both colors look great!

Thanks very much RedEdge16. Will check it out. I am liking the Kona Blue better as time goes on. I bought it from a private party (reason for no choice in color) in my area with 195 miles and only 1 month old as he had some financial challenges. He actually wanted the Kona Blue and couldn't find it locally so he bought it from Texas and shipped it to Nevada. When sun is out, the blue metallic metal flake is beautiful!
