If just wheels, also interested in that If I can get them for the right price. I am going to be buying a 2015 edge sport in the next few weeks and would like to use the factory 20s for the winter and use the optional 21's for spring/summer driving. thanks! I am in Kansas btw! Aftermarket. They're a LOT less expensive and you can get something that makes you different from the other thousands of Edge's out there. We have the optional factory 20's on her 2013 limited and had the same optional factory 20's on her 2011 limited. I could have replaced ALL FOUR rims what what it cost me for two. The plastic cladding on the Ford OEM rims damages so easily and can't be replaced, the entire rim has to be. Plus you have to consider that you have to go thru. You have hunt these "like new" used rims down on craigs list, ebay, etc. Work with an unknown individual to purchase these used rims in a truly unknown condition/history and have zero recourse if you're not satisfied. Or ... purchase ones that look very much like the Ford OEM's for ~200.00 each from a retailer with benefits. Heck, Tire Rack even has a depiction of the Edge (your year and color) that you can see what any given rim looks like. Just sayin. I don't how many 21 inch packages you would get aftermarket for that kind of money, most are $3k plus with tires. Regardless of size, getting a rim replaced by the dealer will be very expensive, so yes of course replacing one rim in the aftermarket is much cheaper. Or you can do what I did and buy an extra set of rims/tires used on Craigslist for $1,900. This way I have an extra rims, tires, and TPMS, if any of mine get damaged over the life. I can sell them at the end of my lease if they didn't get used (that's my protection package lol). Then you as the car owner are left with getting paid for the wheel and having 3 leftovers... I have found used sets or take off's for $1-2k total. We talked about a lot of nothing but one thing he mentioned was another customer who had 21" tires on his new MKX. ge had just replaced his second tire in (I believe) three - four months. This time he took a nail in the tread. Normally an easy fix, there's so little sidewall that any puncture damages the sidewall and need to replace the tire. His first failure was hitting a chuck hole. Couple that with the very hard ride these tires cause, and you might reconsider going this route. I have had 22's on a silverado I had ( came with the truck) and never had many issues. Also had the 2011 and 2013 edge with the factory 20's and haven't had a single tire issue in a combined (80k driven on both)... knock on wood! On a 20" or smaller, you have more sidewall (higher away from tread), nail can't cone in contact with the sidearm unless right out at the edge of the tread. unca waldo Posted January 29, 2017 Report Share Posted January 29, 2017 (edited) There are advantages and disadvantages regarding wheels, regardless of which way you go. One advantage of factory wheels is that they are almost always forged, as opposed to cast and machined. A forged wheel is much stronger than a cast wheel... and virtually always lighter. Aftermarket forged wheels are readily available, however the cost approaches that of a factory wheel. Over time, the heavier wheels will take their toll on suspension components, brakes and such. And because they're heavier, your fuel mileage may go down. All this being said, there's nothing "wrong" with a good set of aftermarket, cast wheels... it's just that comparing them to factory wheels is like comparing apples to oranges In the end, if road conditions are such, that damaged wheels are a constant threat, picking up a set of aftermarket wheels may very well save you $$$'s... and you can save the nice, factory forged wheels, for when you want to show off your ride.Just my two cents worth... adjusted for inflation.
