Vhalen50 Posted January 5, 2017 Report Share Posted January 5, 2017 Installed my Drivebright HID kit last night and everything went fine. Only issue is when my car is set to Auto, the lamps are always on. If i toggle the "daytime running lights" in the dash, when the auto has determined the lights to be off, it turns off the LEDs and lamps. Dan said i shoudl hook up the harness for my 35w kit, but i havent gotten him to respond as to why, seeing that his instructions say to only add the harness if the lights flicker. anybody know if adding the harness fixes the lights being on and off with the auto function? Burrcold Posted January 5, 2017 Report Share Posted January 5, 2017 If you have it set to auto and you have the day time running lights "on" in your left gauge menu, then yes your HID's would always be on (unless you are in park and the ambient light is bright enough to keep them off - the moment you put the transmission in reverse/drive they will turn on). I'm not sure why your accent LED's would turn off with the day time running lights in the "off" position. In Canada we have standard DRL and can't select them off so my accent LED's are always on. My HID's just stay on all the time as a result of the above, which is fine by me. I'd rather that than them turning on and off when set to auto (same reason Nick gave). It's not a matter of where your edge was manufactured, it depends on where the edge was first delivered to (i.e. Canada, California, etc.). If your state has a DRL requirement and that is where your car was originally destined for, your HIDs will be on all the time (unless you convince your dealer to relocate the DRL function to your parking lights via IDS or you DIY via forscan). 3 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
DLink Posted January 17, 2017 Report Share Posted January 17, 2017 I live in California and have a 2016 Edge with HID headlights. The DRL function does not activate the HID's, only the halogen high beams, but at a lower light output and no other lights are on (i.e. tail lights, etc.) We also have to have head lamps on when wipers are on (raining / snowing), and by state law DRL's don't count; you need front and rear lights operating when wipers are on! Edges without factory HID have the DRL at the low beams. Usually for low beam DRL, the lights are run at a reduced voltage or some type of fluctuating voltage. in both cases, this not reduced voltage causes the PNP HID to freak out since it has a converter that is supposed to convert 12-14 normal voltage to the higher higher voltage of the HID setup. or something like that.
