Joel2010 Posted January 12, 2017 Report Share Posted January 12, 2017 So I bought aftermarket headlamp assemblies for my 2010 ford edge, they look great, only problem is they are not bright enough for where I live. I have the assemblies from carid.com, originalfactory assemblies call for two bulbs, a hi and a low (H11 and 9005) these aftermarket ones go to a single H11 bulb and when you activate high beams a apperture opens to widen the beam.... Problem is its still a low beam. Im wondering if anybody has used LEDs or HIDs with this aftermarket assemblies or if anybody knows how to get a 9005 bulb onto a H11 retainer ring to install in the housings? IWRBB Posted January 13, 2017 Report Share Posted January 13, 2017 You could just upgrade the lamps in the stock housing. I just changed my H11 low beams to H9s. Technically it's not legal since it's above 55W (65W) but they are not blinding in any way. I also changed the high beams from 9007s to 9011 HIRs. The 9011 HIRs have much better output, but a short life span. Not a big deal since I rarly run with the brights on. Both changes took a slight mod to the lamp base tabs, and the 9011 HIRs needed a rib trimmed out of the electric plug in area. Took about 2-3 min per bulb. I was walking around the auto department at Meijers Saturday and was casually looking at Silverstar's packaging. Everything I looked at was 65 watt, but wasn't really looking to see if they were low or high beam. I don't recall reading where theres a wattage limit in the FMVSS. Years ago, here in Indiana there used to be a legal limit of 100,000 cp total at the front of a car. Was talking to a state patrol officer as to how they enforce to law, said he just looks for excessive glare. If it hurts his eyes, they get stopped.
