Question Regarding Remote Start On 2014 Limited Edge

Recommended Posts

We are looking at 2014 Limited with the factory remote start. My Father has a Silverado truck & Chrysler van & both have factory remote start & the really nice part about both of those vehicles is that when you use the remote start, they automatically turn on the defrost on high heat & the heated seats in the winter. In the summer both of those vehicles automatically turn on the AC. It doesn't matter what the climate control was set on when the car was turned off. Does the Edge Factory remote start do that also? I don't really care about the AC in the summer but automatically turning on the defrost on high heat & the heated seats in the winter is really nice feature.

I believe so as long as you set the remote start climate control to auto. Check out the owner's manual yourself to be safe - www.motorcraftservice.com -> Free Information - Owner Information

Edit - why would you ever turn off the climate control?

Like what Akirby stated, if you set the remote start has a climate setting, manual or auto. In auto, it does what you want regardless of what AC setting was at when you last turned off the car. The manual setting just leaves the AC to the last setting it was at when you last turned off the car. It is a really good system & you can specify 5, 10 or 15 minute durations which can be extended to another period. Short of a smartphone remote start system, Ford's system are amongst the best.

That is the information I was looking for, thank you.

One other quick question, I know My Ford Touch has been panned over the years by many auto critics & Ford customers. I also know Ford made some improvements to the MFT reliability & usability & I'm wondering if the improvements actually made a big difference or if it's still frustrating to use? We're looking at a 2014 Limited & MFT is the only thing that is giving me some reservations about purchasing an Edge.

MyFord Touch, in its latest versions, V3.6, 3.7 & 3.8, are pretty reliable, yes the interface is slow, but it gets the job & is reliable. At least in my 2011 & a 2013 Explorer of a friend's. In some cases, there are hardware faults that will cause the system to hang or act strangely, for which the dealer should replace the hardware responsible for it, the APIM. For even extended the warranty on it by 2 additional years, but i think that applied to 2011-2013 model years. I wouldn't back off of good deal on a used car if it has MyFord Touch.

I believe Ford's major mistake with MyFord Touch that really escalated the issue, is that it also came with a touch (capacitive) panel for the HVAC/Audio functions, meaning you had to use touch only and when the APIM failed, you'd lose HVAC/Audio controls.
