North American 2016 Ford Edge Sport Instrument Cluster Upgrade

I have been working on this project for a while and am finally satisfied with the final outcome.

I used a 17 Explorer Platinum instrument cluster and loaded the firmware for the Euro spec Edge which uses the same style cluster. I messed with the programming data A LOT and believe I have everything working as it should now. Def. like the upper style cluster much better. Each cluster has its pros and cons but I do like this one over the original cluster. Mileage was matched at the time of swap.

On the first video when I click a seatbelt...its the front passenger seat I am doing.

Well this is what the original cluster looks like:

@akirby I see you have 16 MKX so your cluster should be the same but I don't believe the MKX cluster supports the outside air temp on the display which is why I didn't look into using that firmware as well as the needles would have been white instead of blue. The upper cluster also doesn't support CLIMATE controls which is a bit of a let down but I absolutely love having the digital speedo right in the center. When on a road that built in NAV has a speed limit for, it always displays that in center of the "analog" speedo just to the right of the lane departure system.
The cluster I used was a brand new cluster and I had to order the proper lens to fit the Edge from a dealer in the UK as you can't order it in North America. That took a while to get. I have special software that I was able to force the Euro Edge firmware into it and then it was just researching and tinkering with the build data programming. If you watch the engineering video you will see the values I ended up using.
Very pleased with the final product.

You could use other clusters of the same style. I am fairly confident newer MKX and MKZ would work. I tried a used MKC cluster and it didn't work. The fuel gauge wouldn't read right. I don't know if it internally is different or if the cluster itself had an issue. So I wouldn't recommend a MKC cluster.

You wouldn't necessarily need to re-write the firmware but you would have to play with the build data to get things set up correctly. I liked the options opened up with the firmware of the Euro Edge. For instance the NA MKZ displays temp but the NA MKX and NA Explorer Platinum doen't. Why would they purposely leave that out? To me that is ridiculous. Its fully capable of it but they choose not to include it. Also the Explorer cluster I used had the fuel door location pointing to the passenger side and that display turns out to be firmware controlled rather than build data controlled. Anyway, you would still need to get a new lens housing as already noted. You also have to find someone capable of matching the odometer. If you order a new one they can specify the mileage.

I don't see this as being a useless post...It shows what can be done when people put the time and energy into doing something.

Wouldn't a UK spec Instrument cluster work easier?

Actually even with a firmware change it still maintains certain characteristics that only the EU cluster would have such as Fuel gauge showing 0 and 1 at the ends (instead of E and F) and temp gauge showing 60 and 120 © at the ends as well (instead of C/H). So using a NA cluster is the way to go.

Also the EU parts are super expensive...the lens for the clusters here typically run $20-$30. I paid $115.50 not including shipping for the correct lens.

I can procure the mask/lens from China if some people are interested.

$110 + $15-18 shipping . The only caveat to that is, I would need 4 buyers to place the order. .... ordering it by the unit is much more expensive.

the mask on the MKX cluster is not a fit for the Edge.

You might be able to get the MKX cluster in there in there with some modifications but you'll only be able to get the two bottom screws in and more than like have a 1/2" gap all the way around the top contour between the mask and the dash.

and some might be ok with that ;)

I'm not at all ok with that, I don't want my vehicle to look like a hack job. Do you still have any of the cluster masks available?
