Airbag issue for 2016- 2017's

I got a second "we still haven't forgotten about you and will fix the passenger airbag in your 2009 MKX when we finally get replacment airbags or you sell the car first" letter last week.

Ā

Their still thinking about me. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy deep down inside.

(Course that could be the glass of wine I just drank).

"Here lies enigma-2

His airbags need to be replaced

He hit a bump and they went boom,

And now he's spilt in two".

I got notified today on this. After all the emphasis on airbags due to the Takata debacle, you would think that Ford would have paid more attention as they bring out updated models such as the Edge.[/size]

If they caught it after only 32,000 vehicles that tells me they were paying attention.

It's interesting that you ignored enigma-2's post!

Ā

I have noticed that you are not good with any sort of criticism of Ford from me (suck it up), however, the airbag crisis has been going on for many many years worldwide in case you hadn't noticed. This is not a case of poor Sync updates, which by the way you previously defended as being Beta copies even though other more respected forum members told you they weren't. This is a safety issue that I would have expected ANY manufacturer to pay particular attention to airbag sourcing when bringing out new or updated models in recent years given all of the bad press associate with airbags over the past few years.

Ā

Again, I have posted my opinion and do not intend to get into a flame war with someone who I now consider cannot look at things objectively and factually. Thank you and good night...

I'm the one who isn't looking at things objectively? I didn't ignore enigma-2's post. Perhaps you're the one who ignored the details of the recall. This is not the same issue as the original airbag - the problem is completely different. And since it's only 32000 vehicles it's either a bad batch from the supplier or an installation problem and Ford found it before anyone was injured. How is that Ford not paying attention?

Ā

I'm sorry but I take things very literally and I can't stand it when someone says something contradicted by facts.

Ā

As for the sync3 thing I never said anything about sync3 being beta. What I said was the software wasn't ready for public distribution and Ford must have had a good reason for not releasing it. I still say part of the delay was waiting for the new apple carplay hubs to be stocked up. I have over 30 years in IT and I understand what happens behind the scenes with software so I'm more forgiving than most might be. But that doesn't mean I'm not being objective. Quite the opposite. Ford screwed up when they said it would be ready last summer and it's over 6 months late. That's what you should be complaining about.

I want to buy a 2017 Edge Sport but my dealer can't sell me the car until the airbag recall is done and they said they don't have any ETA. I saw one article that said replacement parts may be available August 2017, which is WAY too long to wait. Anyone on this forum have any insight as to when the fix may be available for dealers who have a delivery hold on a vehicle? Thanks

I talked to a couple of dealer folks too who didn't seem to have heard about the recall before I mentioned it. In any case, I just bought a '17 Ford Edge Sport yesterday that was subject to this recall. They received the part from Ford this morning and installed it, and I took delivery today. So there's hope that it won't take until the end of Q2 for new Edges within the affected build dates to be deliverable.

After going through this fiasco with my Mustang, we are in for a long hard road. I was waiting on parts for two years and eventually sold my car at a loss because of the airbag recall. I believe dealers were aware of the recall mid December and did not inform buyers until the official notice in March. Potential legal action?
