Radio Upgrade Question

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I have a question that may have been answered already in one of the other questions. I recently purchased a 2013 Edge with a 4.2-inch screen and Sync and satellite options only. I would like to upgrade and add a backup camera, and swap out the 4-inch screen to an 8-inch factory screen, with Navi and all with the Ford Touch I suppose wanted to keep it OEM. My question is are these units plug and play? I have found the items I needed from LKQ for a fairly reasonable price, on a low budget I can get the coverplate, 8-inch screen for about $350, would I need to replace the radio head unit as well? Or would it be easier to spend roughly $1000+ for an aftermarket Unit.that is roughly 6-7 inch screen? Thanks for any and all input and suggestions.

You need the apim as well at a minimum.

Ok Thank you. after doing a little more research, Ithink the best option is to just add an aftermarket radio to the vehicle, it seems to be to much trouble to obtain an OEM radio and screen from a junk yard such as LKQ, then have to track down the codes or have it flashed in order to work in the vehicle because it seems that all the radios are VIN specific. and only FORD is able to flash the upgrade and most dealers around here want an exorbitant amount of money to do that.
