New Edge Sport 2016 Owner

Hello from Maryland!

Did my research of more than 20 SUVs to replace an existing one and it boiled down to the Q5 Audi, 2016 Sport Edge and the Mazda CX5. Thank God I came to my senses and bought the Edge the Q5 would have been double the monthly payment...lol

So far I've added the majority of Ford accessories which are reasonably priced and fit great.

I'm now in the process of blacking out everything on an electric spice color, so far it just keeps looking better.

Then I'm considering going with Unleashed Tuning.

Looking for advice wherever possible and especially on the tuning issue.

Thanks!

Welcome, and congrats on the new '16 Sport! nothing like saving a bit of money and still enjoying your ride!

Unleashed and Livernois are your two top choices currently in the Ecoboost tuning game. You can also talk to Brew City Boost and Leading Edge Tuning. There's another up and coming tuner with a novel approach to tuning Ecoboosts that really works, safe & within Ford's parameters. You can email him at bradleyfredrickfischer@yahoo.com. IDK if he has tuned an Edge Sport yet, but he will tell you what he can/cannot do. Everyone I have mentioned except for Livernois uses SCT tuning devices as of now.

Looking at your Dyno report it looks like parasitic loss is approximately 27.5% TQ and 27.9% HP.
Given that at the crank numbers are 315HP and 350TQ for the Ecoboost 2.7L .
A good tune adds around 50HP and 50TQ at the wheels.

When I do the math at the crank numbers jump to 378HP and 415TQ. Add in a MRT axle back exhaust good for some HP and TQ and that should put you around or above 385HP and 420TQ at the crank ! :ford:

As promised but not in the order I was aiming for due to popular demand... :clapping:

Here are the 87, 93 & e30 Unleashed Tune Dyno reports for my 2016 Ford Edge Sport.

Notes:

- The Dyno used was a Mustang brand (aka the "HEART BREAKER") at the CCBC College in Baltimore, MD.
- Deviations from stock: Unleashed Tune, K&N high flow air filter, 170 TStat, IC grille & AGS cooling modifications.
- This Dyno is known for conservative numbers.
- Initial CAI Temp issues mitigated with IC grill & AGS Mods
- Qtr mile: 105.3 mph/12.9 sec
- True vehicle weight 4460 lbs

Special K's (Son) inputs:

Best Dyno run: 299 hp @ 4907 and 365 tq @ 3875
22% parasitic loss = 445 hp with 463 tq @ crank

Future modifications along with follow-on Dyno reports:

- Colder spark plugs
- Blow Off Valve (BOV)
- Catch Can
- Inter cooler (IC)
- Cold air intake (CAI)

Stock at the wheels TQ was 243 and HP was 208. After the tune and on E30 you made 317tq and 295hp at the wheels.

On E30 fuel and a tune you gained 74TQ and 87HP at the wheels. WOW!! :happy feet:

At the crank you are making.. hold on, OMG... 426.27HP and 444.35TQ. Awesome massive numbers, Congratulations. :clapping:

I had another look and found some errors on my part :hammer_self: . I will break my math down for you.

Using the stock base numbers of 315 hp and 350tq at the crank and at the wheels 253TQ and 226HP.

Parasitic loss is 97tq and 89hp.

Here is my corrected math and how I came to the numbers.

315 x 28.27% = 89.05 so HP parasitic loss is 28.27% HP

350 x 27.72% = 97.02 so Parasitic loss is 27.72 %TQ

299whp tuned - 226whp stock = 73 whp gain

365wtq tuned - 253wtq stock = 112 wtq gain

73whp x 28.27% = 20.63 20.63 + 73 = 93.63hp gain at the crank = 315+ 93.63 = 408.63 crank HP

112wtq x 27.72% = 31.04 31.04 + 112 = 143.04tq gain at the crank 350 + 143.04 = 493.04 crank TQ

The final numbers I came up with are 408.63 HP and 493.04 TQ at the crank. Man thats a lot of TQ!!!

With a weight of 4400 pounds and HP of 408.63

using this site http://www.wallaceracing.com/et-hp-mph.php

Your ET / MPH computed from your vehicle weight of 4400 pounds and HP of 408 is 12.87 seconds and MPH of 105.02 MPH. Push the weight to 4550 and HP at the crank jumps to aprox 415 to get the 12.9

You stated - Qtr mile: 105.3 mph/12.9 sec, so my numbers are in line with that.

Please let me know if I screwd up.

hey there OP, now that a little bit of time has passed since you have it, what do you think about this car? i've been thinking for a while to get one myself but i barely find anyone to tell me anything about it and that's why i'm now here and that's why i'm now asking this question. would appreciate if you could tell me your opinion. also thanks so far for everything shared. i have health issues (which is why i search for meds reviews often) making it hard for me to concentrate and find the info myself. thanks

In hind site I can say with even stronger conviction that I made the right choice with this car.

Being a 60 year old gear head, road racer, owner of many foreign and a few domestic cars, logistics engineer, perfectionist, Ford hater and non biased evaluator I can say there has never been a more well balanced vehicle in my possession or evaluation portfolio.

If your looking for the following you can't go wrong for the money:

Mid size SUV/Crossover

Passenger & cargo room

Handling

Power

All around performance

Reasonable mileage for the power

Easy to work on

Reasonably priced manufacture parts & accessories

Reasonably priced service

Low maintainability

High reliability

Loaded with technology, bells, whistles and the creature comforts of high end status SUVs/Crossovers i.e. Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Volvo etc.

Note: All of my comments are specifically in reference to the 2015-2018 Ford Edge Sport only.

However, I was informed that the top of the line model "Titanium" with the largest engine they offer is to be considered as well if your more
into creature comforts & luxury.

Thnx goes out to Burrcold & akirby for keeping me accurate... :hat_tip: :hat_tip:

You can't get the Titanium model with the 2.7 engine.
