I just bought a 2017 Ford Edge Titanium 3 weeks ago and love it. But about 7 days ago, the wipers started coming on without my touching them. I would be driving along or sitting at a red light on a sunny day, and they would swipe 2-3 times and then stop. Sometimes I could drive for an hour without it happening, and then all of a sudden they would swipe. I assumed it was the automatic rain sensor function, so I unchecked it. Well, that didn't change anything. They still continue to swipe at all times when I'm running the car. There is no pattern to when it happens or how many times it swipes. Obviously, it is incredibly annoying.

So last week I took it in for service at the Ford Dealer near my work and after a day of tests and diagnosis, they said they had to order a new Wiper Switch. I agreed, but had it sent to the Ford Dealership where I originally bought the car. The Switch came in today, and the Service Center replaced it in the morning and told me all was well. I drove the car 1/2 mile and the wipers started to swipe again...so I took it back and left the car all day. They told me they're very busy on Saturdays and asked me to take a rental home and let them work on it again on Monday. So now I'm driving a dirty, smoke-filled Hyundai while I wait for my new car to be fixed.

I can't believe this is happening. :(

Take heart, it is probably the circuit board in the wiper motor. Even those are high tech now.

About a year ago, my wife says that the rear wiper is running by itself. So I completely disconnect the control switch, and the damn thing still runs.

Long story short, Googled it and found out that the circuit board in the motor screws up and sticks on.

Order new motor from RockAuto, problem solved.

But mine was a lot older than 3 weeks old. :) Stuff happens, hope that motor is all there is for you.

So it's been 6 days, and the Ford Service center hasn't figured out how to fix the wipers on my 4 week old car. My 2017 Ford Edge is still sitting at the Dealership. Each day I call them and they tell me they are working with Ford Engineers, and they give them different diagnostic steps every day but no luck. Then they have to wait 24 hours until Ford responds again. I've been on their corporate Complaint chat line daily, and they tell me it's being escalated, but nothing happens. I'm wondering how long they can make me wait. I'm so tired of this and feeling like a fool. I've always been so loyal to Ford, and it's hard to realize my loyalty means absolutely nothing to them as a customer. I can't decide if I should take it to another Dealer and let them start over or just wait till they fix it. The Ohio Lemon law is 30 days or 3 attempts to repair.

Thanks everyone for your help and tips. The Ford Service center called me Friday afternoon and told me they had replaced the Wiper Motor. Unfortunately, it took the Ford Engineers all week to make that determination. For now, I'm back to driving my new car...and very happy. Hopefully, that's the end of my Service problems.

I have a 2015 Sport with rain sensors....in light rain sometimes the right wiper will wipe up from the bottom center home position and then stay in the outside vertical position...the left wiper cycles through...and then eventually the right wiper catches up again...service dept has looked at it but found nothing loose.

They may not have found anything loose, but these are linked mechanically and move together unless there is something mechanically wrong with the link. If the drivers side is working correctly the passenger side should be following along.

Next time, Video the problem and bring it to the dealer with you.
