My Horny Edge

Recommended Posts

Had a set of Cadillac horns that i wanted to install my '07 SEL. Don't know what exact year they are from, but they have a single power spade.

Long story short, tapped into the horn pigtail wires and tied them into a 40amp relay (just because it was available). I used the mounting tabs on the horns, but had to bend them back about 45 degree angle to mount them to a section of the driver side fender. Had to enlarge the holes a tad and drill an extra one for the metal nib that keeps them from rotating. I ran the power from the battery through a inline fuse

Definitely louder. I'll try to post a video of the noise.

Is there a particular reason that you wanted to do this? Not trying to disparage, but just interested in why. Frankly, I'd like to mount a train horn like I've seen in those utoob vids. THAT would get some attention!!

In theory it's easy-peasy to have a unique horn. Some people tune, change suspension, max out the sound system. Stuff like this fits my budget.

I'll admit that the sound isn't as harmonious as I would like; a bit staccoo. The best horns I've ever had were on my '66 Valiant and those are way rarer to find. $5 at Ye Ol' Picke & Pulleth. I'm not much of a horn user to begin with, so I'm not looking to cause grandpa to fill his Depends, but it's nice to make your presence known.

I'll try and get a video up soon. I think I'll do one from a distance to really showcase it's awesome power.

Years ago I worked in the city. Everyday at lunch I would walk to a local coffee house for lunch and have to cross an alley. One day an ambulance was waiting to exit the alley and the fool driving hit the horns, (ambulances around here have train horns mounted to clear traffic). I was less than ten feet away.

Without missing a beat, I fell to the ground, grabbed my chest and began screaming in pain. (I'm an older fellow).

I rolled once and the looked at the terrified driver and started gasping. He jumped out of the ambulance and ran to me, no longer laughing about his prank. Totally panicked. I grabbed him by the collar and pulled his face close to mine and whispered "got ya back". Got up a walked away.

Looked back and he was still kneeling in the alley, on the sidewalk, totally stunned, wondering what had happened. I'm still laughing about it.

Ah, it's the little things in life .....

What do you need a loud, annoying horn for anyway? My MKX horns piss off everyone just fine.

Way back in the 70's( if your old enough to remember) I had a Ford Taunus(small German Ford). It was fashionable to name you car back then. I had the OEM horn, a set of air horns(so long they were mounted one under each front fender), and an old Chevrolet town & country horn on it. On the rear fender was it's name "Horny Toad".

Way back in '80 I was living in south Florida, stinking hot summer to go with the chaos of the Mariel boatlift. Concentration camps/tent cities under flyovers in Miami-Dade and everything feeling like a pressure cooker. So one morning, I think mid August, there's a... disagreement at an intersection wherein a very loud horn was a trigger. This led to another trigger: one guy feels so aggrieved that he pulls out his .357 from under his front seat and proceeds to start blasting away at the horn blower. I forget the outcome, all I know is that I'd been thinking it was getting to be time to leave and after seeing the photo of this mayhem on the front page of the Herald I packed and left the next day. And ever since I use my horn very, very carefully. There are plenty of bozos out there that need a good blast but their erratic and annoying driving habits are more likely to be connected to other... idiosyncrasies. Which may include suppressed rage and large calibre gun ownership.
