Rear spoiler looses paint rapidly

Hi, the rear spoiler on my 2007 Edge looses its paint rapidly.

Before I apply the spray can, are there any suggestions how to prepare the surface in a special way?

Obviously it needs to be sanded and primed. If it's plastic you need a special adhesion promoter. Then it's normal painting.

 

You can get complete kits from paintscratch.com and other sources that include spray can basecoat, midcoat (if needed) and clearcoat and associated rubbing compounds, sandpaper, etc. They work great and aren't super expensive.

I guess it can be taken off by removing the nuts on top of the rear lift gate?

Most likely. Check Fordparts.com or any online parts catalog - they usually have pictures showing the connectors/screws.

You may want to consider doing it on-vehicle, as you have to be very careful not to break the glass. Anyway, here is the official procedure
