Hello, new user and Edge owner. I just purchased a 2008 Edge Limited. I apologize if this is covered elsewhere and I missed it. I have the Vista roof and when I purchased the vehicle it was not functioning, neither the glass or the shade give any response. They are both in the full closed position.

Does anyone have a step by step troubleshooting guide for these roofs? I have check the fuses in location 17 and 18 in each box and both seem to be good. Is it common for both motors to have failed? Is there a way to test the motors? Is it possible it is the switch?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you

You could always try to reinitialize the roof using the following steps

http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/5259-sunroof-initialization/

If this doesn't work I would have to assume the motors are probably toast especially if you have checked the fuses. If it does work I would take the steps to clean and lubricate the tracks because if they are dirty it can cause the motors to fail if it is not cleaned and lubed periodically.

I appreciate the responses. As you suggested enigma-2 the first place I went looking was the switches. I have located the problem. The motors are both fine, the reason there was no response was that they were disconnected at the switch intentionally, the harness was unplugged from the switch. When I reconnected the harness at the switch the shades opened without a problem. The glass then opened just fine, which made me question why it would have been disconnected? I then located the actual problem - when I tried to close the glass it did not move. The 2 slides that the glass panel are attached to in the front which push and pull the glass panel have broken off, both sides are completely separated. Does anyone know if these are replaceable? I located a part number - 7T4Z78502M78A - that seems to be it but not sure.

I know very little about this, but it's my understanding that the the BMAR is serviced as an assembly.

If it were me, I'd drop by the parts department at your local dealer and see what he can come up with (after all you have to go OEM on this stuff).

Baring that, it's a trip to the recycling ysrd.

You will have to buy the track and replace them Go to ford for the parts. Be ready for sticker shock.

The vista roof front glass has what is like 4 legs (2 front + 2 back). The part number provided (number 14 in the diagram, right 7T4Z78502M78A & left 7T4Z78502M79A) though are described as "Slide Rail Front Extension" they look like the rear legs of the vista roof. The front legs look to be part of the rails (number 11, Lift Channel, right 7T4Z78502C06A & left 7T4Z78502C07A-"with a photo" for 2007-2010) and they more than $300 each!!

My 2011 MKX is in the same situation, but didn't disconnect the switches (yet) since the shade still works & the roof can tilt & close, but if slide opened would not close. Would be a great middle solution if I can only disable the slide function & leave the tilt & shade functions working.
