MRT AXLE -BACK EXHUAST FOR G2 EDGE SPORT AWD

Recommended Posts

So I get this installed. Sounds good. Like a purring cat. Get's a bit buzzy on the top end.

However - you will want to take it to a muffler shop. I made my cuts and everything lined up as it should. But the OD of the factory exhaust is just over 2". The ID of the MRT exhaust is just under 2-1/4". The design requires the clamp to compress the relief cuts in the neck down to compress onto the factory exhaust. That wasn't going to happen. Especially at the 30ftlbs they recommend for the clamps.

Also of note, they stated there were hangers near the differential. My Edge did not. So the only hangers holding the exhaust were by the resonator and the tips. With the cuts where they were, it requires a large amount of friction to hold the exhaust in place and not sag. Again, not happening. I had some 2-14" 4" long band clamps i used instead temporarily.

Stopped by my local hot rod muffler shop and had it welded up.

I did talk to MRT finally since they never returned my original call. Explained everything to their engineer. Most likely it was a manufacturing defect in that they did not neck down the pipe to the correct size for the factory exhaust. But I also explained that my vehicle didn't have the hangers they reference and based on their design, really need to exist. If anyone else can take a peak under their edge to see if they have any exhaust hangers by the differential it'd be nice to know.

I have pics, just need to pull them off my phone.

ordered mine.

i need to get under and see exactly where they're expecting the cut to occur. the instructions make it sound like you cut at the bend but that doesn't make any sense. and that one picture of where to cut is worthless haha.

You cut approx 3 inches measured from the bend. Never cut at the bend.

JScaro, you are looking at a MRT Axle Back Exhaust System modified for quad tips. I am removing the 3 inch FlowMaster tips and replacing them with 3 /1/2 Stainless Steel tips . The 3 inch tips did not fill up the available space for my taste. The quilted muffler blankets are heat shields that will stop any heat getting into the cabin, even though this has not been a problem. I bought them long before I went to quad tips in the hope that they would cut down on the drone I was getting in the cabin. After installing the quad tips the drone was almost completely gone so I never installed them until now . Because I already had them and the exhaust was out for access to the turbos I decided to install them . If they cut down in cabin noise any I will be happy. I like a quiet ride on the inside but an aggressive sound on the outside.

Thanks Xtra,

Do you have any pics of the exhaust installed yet?

What quad tips did you use and did you have to modify the tail pipe any to install?

I finally got around to installing the LMS tuner, I think exhaust will be my next step.

I did a stereo upgrade and sound deading in the back which should help with any unwanted noise.

JScaro, Yes the MRT system was modified you can see the added pipe after the muffler in the photo above. This was added to move it into the correct position for the tips to stick out. I have a 6 inch buffer and I touched up the tips to make them like chrome. I used Mothers polish to do it . In stock form they are fine I just have the tools so why not? Also they are weld on so you will need to cut a slit or have a pipe expander to slip them on before welding. $78.88 for both RT and LF sides. The FlowMasters I took off cost that much each!

I found the tips here: https://www.ebay.com/i/301901438568?chn=ps
