Mirage52 Posted June 28, 2017 Report Share Posted June 28, 2017 When I turn. Replaced them 2 weeks ago and just started to notice it a few days ago, even after talking a 600 mile road trip. Had no problems at all on the trip, but now starting to get some rubbing noises when I make turns and enter traffic circles. Replacement was pretty easy -- no issues but the brake pad clips were giving me some issues setting down in the grooves. I am wondering if they are rubbing against the rotor. I guess I should have just bought some new clips but they cleaned up pretty well and seemed in good condition after 50K miles. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

If you did not completely pull everything apart and clean then re-grease the pins etc. even the clips and caliper bracket surfaces then you may have noise. The caliper pin boots come out (rubber boots) inside the caliper. Take them out clean them up or replace them. Make sure the clips are in the correct position. The other issue is if the rotors on the inside are any good. The front rotors an notorious for heavy built up rust and damage. If you did not replace the rotors then this may be the issue also. The outside of the rotor will look perfect, but the inside rotor surface will be damage from heavy rust. 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Make sure the backing plates are seated correctly, the slide pins are moving freely, and that the noise dampeners (on the rear only?) are in place. Mirage52 Posted June 29, 2017 Author Report Share Posted June 29, 2017 Replaced front pads and rotors. Cleaned and greased up the caliper pins and contact points on the pads. Mirage52 Posted June 29, 2017 Author Report Share Posted June 29, 2017 (edited) So I am at work now but I took a look at the clips and I think one of the sides are installed wrong since they look different. I attached pics of the passenger side and driver side for comparison. If I had to guess I'd say the passenger side is wrong. Any advice? EDIT: So it's definitely the passenger side!!! I can see the scratch marks on the rotor from the clips being backwards!!! Crap!!! I hope I didn't ruin these new rotors!!! My question is, will reinstalling the clips correctly and then braking eventually smooth them out? Or will this create a hot spot on the pads and cause them to wear irregularly?
