I went to Robin Ford on the recommendation of a smaller shop that was working on my Explorer.

They found the issue and repaired it without just throwing parts at it.

Next brought in my wife's Edge, and again, they properly diagnosed the issue and made the repairs.

I try to do routine maintenance myself, but sometimes need to go to the pros for bigger issues.

I literally drive past a bigger Ford dealer to get to Robin Ford from where i live.

I've had less than stellar experiences at the other dealer, so was pleasantly surprised by a good experience.

I'll drive past them again to get to Robin Ford.

(1995), I bought a 1995 explorer from Robin Ford. Great dealer, wish that I still live near enough for service.

OK, time for another good report on Robin Ford.

My wife's Edge started "bucking" or hunting for the right gear on upgrades and any other shift points. It would come and go. Then she started getting the "wrench" idiot light come in, and car wouldn't go more than 5-10 mph. But it would go away after a restart.

I don't have the time or knowledge to chase intermittent problems with the tranny, so finally took it in to get checked out,.

And yea, trouble code P0717, it's my turn for the TSS sensor to go bad.

Rob at Robin explained everything to me, there's no damage to the tranny... yet.

Replaced the TSS & OSS and flushed and replaced the trans fluid. Approx $780.

Lousy timing for an $800 bill to hit the family budget, but i appreciate the explanation of what was wrong, recommended action, and potential consequences if I kept driving it without fixing.

It's a 2007 Edge SEL-Plus, FWD with about 78,000 on the clock.

I already had the water pump done, now the TSS/OSS. Hopefully no more surprises and I can go back to loving my car.

If your Edge is AWD, you will want to make sure the PTU and RDU fluids are serviced.  A few dealers in PA will service them, but generally it is Ford's poiicy to not service the PTU.  If a service advisor pushes back, ask to talk to the trans tech directly.  Usually they will do it then, because they understand what is needed to be done.  Otherwise, line up a reputable trans service shop to do the work for you.

What is recommended for mileage between fluid services ?
