IAC Valve?

Hey guys.... my 150k edge is having a rough idle. Obd2 scanner shows no codes and no misfires. Everything checks out good there. Buy... after initial warm up, the enginr tremblrs slightly. Very noticable and it is progressing more apparent. Only at idle. Once slight gas is applied, very normal and healthy operations. Again... no check engone light anf good normal mpg. Im suspecting a IAC? If so.. where is it located? So i can spray it to clean it. Is it part of the throttle body? Can it br reached somehow of it is to clean it?

Take the TPS sensor off the throttle body, check for wear and carbon tracking. But could indeed be the start of a brake booster situation. Have not heard of fuel injectors failing on the 2011+ yet, but there's always a first. Same with fuel pump (non-Ecoboost for both).

How is the door latch situation on your Edge, btw?

Havent sprayed any more electrical cleaner for over 1 year and its working fine! Worked great for me. The key for me was to spray the whole damn bottle. Ohh .. the brake booster was done through the recall over a year ago. No hissing and no odd feelings. And pressing the brakes has no effect on the trembling so i highly doubt it. Edited by 2011edgese

Ok. 30 min of driving and heres the last pic. Also... its had a smooth idle for the last 10 minutes. Seems like when it cools it aggrevates the issue.

Btw.... whats that quiet whistle these edges have. Googled around amd seems like everyone has it. I know this car has had oy since i have owned it. But curious if you guys found out what is it.

Very odd for the LTFTs to be polar opposites like that. Injector issues could be one reason, fuel being dumped into one bank. I really would pull the plugs to see if there is an ignition, fuel or coolant issue at hand. How do the o2 sensors look, and are the vct advance errors near 0 at idle?

Many issues are also caused by a bad tank of gas, how recently did you fuel up, and when did this rough idle start? Have the plugs/pcv valve ever been replaced?

Yeah.. it is odd. Plugd have been replaced and currently have about 86k miles on them. Will look into the o2 sensor to see the sweep. Vct advance, wouldnt know since I dont know how to check. No gas issues, decent mpg. Coolant seems fine, no oil on it. It was a tiny bit low, just added water.

This started about 4 to 5 days ago. Slowly started to get more trembling in the morning. Ill see how bad it gets and maybe a checklight comes around.

Not sure the 2011 has it, but the 2007 has PIDs for the VCT system, one of them being the VCT advance Error or VCTADVERR. Maybe your scantool shows it too. I use Forscan for this.

So no codes are set in the PCM? Might be of the temporary variety that reset on restart, so check before turning the engine off.

What oil and filter are you using? Any rattling on startup?

I don't recall seeing vct on the scantool menu, ill look into again. Yup, no codes at all. I cleaned the air filter [kn] and reoiled it when I cleaned the throttlebody and Iac. The module didnt look bad honestly. But the filter did need a cleaning. Throttle body had moderate gunk buildup, not severe but it was there. Typical oil build up inside the boot, cleaned it too. Checked all the vacuum lines. Checked the Booster line. I can tell you it definately feels more powerful... nice performance increase by doing all that! Its just at idle.... once you give it even the slightest gas, its butter smooth. I was hoping not to do the plugs, might be my next step. Yeah, i checked for codes before shuttung it off... its clean. I take the car to those Quality Tune Up locations, 29.99 for oil and filter. Figured its as much as me buying the oil and filter amd stuck with the old oil, might as well let them do it. Change it every 3000 miles. So no clue what brand they oil. Probably super cheap. :/

Bank 1 is firewall side. 1-2-3 as you look at it from the outside. 4-5-6 is on bank 2, again left to right. As to furing irder probaby 1-4-2-5-3-6, but i will need to dblchk.

I think you are correct. Thxs for the info... doing a oil change tomorrow, its over due. When i find the culprit, I will post. Hopefully its not bad. Still love this car! Next one will be another edge hopefully.

Awesome! Ill compare. Ended getting a oil change today. Told the tech to pressure the coolant system since I have a very small leak. (Head gasket) concerns. So they did amd found some coolant but couldnt see where it was coming from. They said to just monitor the level and see if it gets worse. I did check for steam out the tail pipe in the moorning to see if there was any, smelled the pipe too as it got cranked... didnt smell sweetness amd didnt see any white smoke. So im crossing my fingers its a slihht leak somewhere else.

*code

Is the sensor hard to get to? Seems must likely since it has the [warm up and it works symptoms] compared to a failed mechanical part that if totally bad at all times. At least thats what I am hoping for. Might explain why 1 bank runs negative amd the other positive on the fuel trims.

ALSO... it say crankshaft-camshaft, is it called the same? Or its 2 different sensors?

Reason I found out was, I was in the highway going uphill and noticed a drop in performance when I gave it gas aggresively, I noticed it didnt feel as strong as usual. So i kept giving it gas on and off amd noticed that sometimes it felt strong and other times it felt like it had a clogged converter. Then i plugged in the scanner and got the code.

You know, I hope this is not a timing chain issue! Thats what p0016 codes usually turn out to be :( at least in these engines. It is saying that the data from thise two sensors is not matching up as expected, so the engine is pulling power/timing. May just need new VCT solenoids with any luck, as their filters do get clogged.

I will have to check pids available for the 2011, coz if the ERRs are there, Forscan should be displaying them. Then u can monitor/log these events and confirm.

I know... crossed my mind. :/ what are the chances of being the cam sensor that has only 1 bolt?

Also... any idea what the symptoms are of its the chain? Asking since its intermitten. On every drive there moments when its smooth.
