Adaptive Cruise with Stop and Go--Why Fusion but not Edge????

I find it frustrating that Ford doesn't seem to want to give the Edge all the bells and whistles it has on other models. I have a 2016 Edge Sport as loaded as it can be but it doesn't have either autonomous braking or stop and go with the adaptive cruise. I see both those features on other Ford models. Why not Edge? It would seem to be a high enough end model to warrant the full treatment. I was hoping to see it appear on the 2018 models but from what I read nothing has changed in that department. Why Ford? Why?

Because Ford doesn't have unlimited resources. You don't just plug in the module and everything works, it takes engineering time and development and testing to add the feature. Doing a major change like that is very inefficient on it's own, so Ford bundles feature updates into new model updates. That's the same as strategy they use for every electronic feature on every product. The stop and go wasn't ready for the 2015 Edge, so the Edge has to wait until the next freshening cycle to get it. The stop and go was available for 2016 models, so because the Fusion was refreshed in 2016, it got it.

Thanks Waldo, that makes good sense. I guess I'm getting impatient. Thought sure 2018 would be the year the Edge got 'refreshed' but I guess not. Oh well, love the car in the meantime. What a great ride!

You can blame Mark Fields for the lack of new models and refreshes. He went into super conservative cost savings mode stopping or delaying several new models including the new Explorer/Aviator and Fusion/Focus updates. It will take them a couple of years to catch up.
