2011 Edge Remote Access

Recommended Posts

I've gone through and searched with no clear answer to my question so I'm posting. I've been looking into adding remote access to my 2011 edge with PTS and factory remote start. It looks like for sure I need the remote access kit DL3Z-19A390-C however its unclear if I need VSS DT4Z-19A361-A.

It appears as though there are 2 versions of the kit. One installs the VSS/RMT behind the OBDII port and the other installs the VSS/RMT in the left rear corner using the TPM connector. I looked up the instructions for the RA kit and it shows the RMT/VSS as part of the kit with it tying into the TPM harness and then the RMU plugs into that.

Which kit is the current version that is ordered from the dealer? One dealer I called had no idea and the other hasn't gotten back to me yet.

Anyone have any ideas?

Read on this thread on the F150 forums, its the same parts for your Edge. Contact Benny at Levittown Ford Parts on that site, he is hands down the most knowledgeable person you can talk to about this system.

Ive had remote access in my 2012 SEL and now my 2014 Sport, I did the installation, piece of cake. Benny will walk you through the whole process along with activating the system for you.

Good luck

Ps- let him know if youre in the U.S. or Canada.

I can confirm that you will need both parts to install the remote access. I didn't need the security system (CSS) and it only saved me about $6 in insurance, so so gave it disabled.

Benny should be abke to tell you what the newest versions are and then you can self -install like TRMN8TR stated above. Have Levittown activate your remote access once everything is in place.

What is PTS?

Yes, you need to add the VSS at the OBD port to use remote access. Your factory remote start uses the "100 series" RMST antenna that is connected to the TPMS in the rear of the car. In order to add remote access you need the VSS box, which gets connected to the OBD connector up front).

The remote access kit is basically just the SIM card device that allows you to use app on your phone instead of an IKT or long range fob (its also $50/year for the app access). You can also start your car from any laptop, tablet etc. using a web browser with the remote access (https://my.fordremoteaccess.com/home).

Before late 2013, the VSS was connected in the back at the TPMS (the actual VSS box itself, part number ended in "-AA"). Afterwards Ford changed the VSS box to be connected at the OBD in the front (VSS part number ended in "-AB").

If you can still find the older VSS/RMST box that connected at the rear TPMS (part number is DL3J-19G367-AA) it will work fine for your Edge. It seems as though they're no longer around and you'll have to go with the OBD connected VSS, part number DT4Z-19A361-A.

Here's the installation instructions (starting on page 55 for the Edge):

I hope my ramblings made sense. Basically, back in the day the VSS was connected in the back of the car, now it's connected in the front. The box hasn't changed at all, just where it is connected.
