Master cylinder??

Recommended Posts

More than likely master cylinder. Pretty standard symptoms. When you do the diagnostic suggested by lildisco have someone open the hood and listen for a hissing sound. If you have the sound... master cylinder. There is a TSB on it and a Ford authorized repair process. I had my master cylinder replaced no charge when it went out. Do a search here and I'm sure you'll find the details.

My 09 MKX did that. New brake booster helped a little, new brakes helped more. However one of the mechanics found something binding on the brakes that wasn't allowing the pads to fully contact the rotor. (This was during a "free" brake check with coupon). Whatever it was, made a 80% difference.

Someone here who has a better understanding of the brakes may be able to speculate on what it was.

As it was free, and I didn't even notice it until I was on the way home, I never asked exactly what he did.
