Potential 15 Edge Sport owner

I am looking at a 15 Edge Sport with pretty much everything. The only thing missing that I wish it had was the heated steering wheel. Local dealer has it for $30k. It has 18k miles on it. I currently have a leased Jeep that the lease is up in August. They are willing to pay off the Jeep so it wont cost me anything. Dealer has had it on their lot since September and claims to be loosing $2500 on it from what was paid at auction for it. Its an off lease vehicle. Its also certified. I am still trying to decide if its a good deal or not. Its also got the condensation in the tail lights. They said they are already loosing money on it and wont fix them. Thats the one thing that has me turned off on the deal. Its Ruby Red with the black wheels.

If it is certified, is it FORD certified, meaning CPO? Then this is the coverage you have

https://www.ford.com/resources/ford/global/pdf/cpo/ford_program_brochure.pdf

Seems lighting is not covered unless

**Interior/Exterior Lighting. Coverage included only if Lighting Option is purchased.

OTOH, having CPO status may get you access to purchase the best extended Ford Protect warranty. Call up lombardfordwarrantys.com and talk with them about your options.

Page 82 of the owners manual lays out the conditions of what is acceptable for condensation and what is not.

[sic]

"Exterior lamps have vents to accommodate normal changes in air pressure. Condensation can be a natural by-product of this design. When moist air enters the lamp assembly through the vents, there is a possibility that condensation can occur when the temperature is cold. When normal condensation occurs, a fine mist can form on the interior of the lens. The fine mist eventually clears and exits through the vents during normal operation.

Clearing time may take as long as 48 hours under dry weather conditions.

Examples of acceptable condensation are:

The presence of a fine mist (no streaks, drip marks or large droplets). A fine mist covers less than 50% of the lens. Examples of unacceptable condensation are:

A water puddle inside the lamp.

Streaks, drip marks or large droplets present on the interior of the lens.

If you see any unacceptable condensation, have your vehicle checked by an authorized dealer."

i paid 35 out the door for mine brand new with 401a, cargo, and cold weather package. i don't know if i'd pay that much for a used one. especially if 30 is before tax title tags blah blah blah. dealer is full of it, they would never pay that high at auction.

also i would never believe the CPO bullsquat after seeing one at a dealership before i bought the current one. it was a 2015 with 18k, previously leased and had the certified garbage sticker on it. after driving it and giving it a look over i saw oil leaking from the pan and some other fluid i couldn't identify in the engine bay. I feel like they can say "oh yea, we did our full 8 million point inspection on it" and slap a CPO tag and call it good.

IMHO this may not necessarily be the best time to buy a car with tax return season right around the corner. I agree with Mikula. It makes no sense for a dealership to pay that much for a off lease vehicle at auction. They are making an easy 7-10k+ over what they paid at auction.

Check the carfax. Carfax will give you an idea of how long its been sitting at the dealership. Some car listing websites will tell you how long a car has been on a lot as well. If the car has been sitting for so long its a sign that the dealership is not really trying to work with anyone on the price.

Or perhaps they did pay extra at the auction. If so then you know they will try to squeeze their profit from your sale.

Likewise, looking at different used Ford Edge's and then came across PTU problems. It would appear that the 13/14 were the same design years, probably 12 also. For 2015, read that the body was redesigned, four inches longer and one inch higher. Also gave more storage space. As for engine's, some mention about the 2L changes later for 2015.

Some people have the money to buy new three to four years and probably most of us, look around for a decent used one. After couple years, we would hope that the present owner would have had to deal with the different bugs in new vehicles, besides the time.

I myself was looking for a 13 limited and then thought maybe 14, with leather seats. I have a 3.5 L Nissan and excellent engine. I thought the 1.4 or 2 l turbo would be great as most driving city and with gas prices who knows a year or two from now.

Then, I came across the PTU problems and real serious. I was reading about the KIA Sorento's and great warrenty, 10 years and problems customers were having when things went wrong-easy catch all tell every one they are abusive drivers. There was this sludge problems.

Like you, wondering if problems fixed in 15 or maybe 16. For extended warrenty, have to find year, warrenty siill in effect to get extended. Extended warrenty has high markup and of course negotiable. My earlier Ford one had started out at $2200 for four years but got it for $1200. But if you are one like me that get a vehicle and drive it forever, then, we might run into a problem when warrenty runs out.

Hope there might be others who have info on PTU's with newer Edge's
